She talked, laughed and pulled my ear!

My eldest 8 year old GD stayed the weekend with us from Friday night. She slept in my bed and we chatted and giggled until she fell asleep. However, when she usually comes over she used to sleep with the twins and I did not remember what she does when asleep. I had two bad nights as she reaches for my ear in the night and gives it a tug. Oucb! Each time she did this it woke me up and I took so long to get back to sleep. I can take the talking and laughing in her sleep but pulling the lobe of my ear? I remembered that my daughter used to sleep with her eyes partly open and this used to spook us out. Do your children or grandchildren do odd things in their sleep?

Neither of my children do odd things in their sleep. Neither of them talk that I am aware of and neither of them sleepwalk. However, you did remind me of my grandfather with this discussion. Whenever he was asleep he always had one eye open and it was a very freaky thing. We never thought he was asleep when he and my grandma would take naps on their living room floor when we were children and you can bet that during that time none of the grandchildren ever did anything that could even slightly be considered out of line.

That is a great story. My daughter was under 4lb and from birth her eyes would only close part way - about half way would be a better description. I would close then and she woud open them. It was freaky and lasted until she was about 6 or 7.

One day they will and you have that to look forward too. I tell them that they can stay up all night watching children;'s movies and eat cookies and drink Pepsi in bed! It works like a charm as they fall asleep so quickly! Maybe when Ryan gets a bit bigger then he will stay with you.

Your granddaughter pulled your ear in her sleep? That's a new one! My mom said up until I was a teenager she would come in my room when I was sleeping if she happened to get up in the night. My bedroom was right by the bathroom, and I kept my door open. Well, she said from when I was a baby and I guess still now, she couldn't tell if I was breathing. She told me she used to go in my room and put her hand underneath my nose. Apparently, she couldn't even tell if my chest was rising and falling. She said she did that until I was a teenager when I started sleeping with my door closed.

My oldest too sleeps sometimes with her eyes part way open too. She did alot as a baby and seems to of grown out of it quite a bit. She also claims she sleep walks wich is how she finds her way to our bed everynight.... She used to swat me in her sleep too, so she could make sure I was still there if she hit me and I wasn't there she's start crying.

There is truth in what you are saying see my comment to Hatley about my twins. When my daughter comes home she sleeps in my bed too but this is because of lack of space as I only have 2 bedrooms. I got my own back with her a few years ago as I told her that she would wake up one morning and I would be stiff beside her! It backfired though as she kept waking me up in th night to see if I was still alive

That must have been quite a shock! Far as I know, the only thing my kids do in their sleep is hog the bed. But I haven't had one in the bed in a while now...

Well, I don't have anybody who does odd things while asleep except for my father who sometimes snores too loud.

Tell your mothrr to pinch his nose and when he jumps up then get him to sleep on his side. That should work!

hi cynthiann my kids just giggled in their sleep but never did anything else really odd. I remember my mom telling about dreaming of rowing a boat and all the time she pulling her younger sisters braids. That must have been a real ouchy situation for my aunt,he he he.

Your story reminded me of my grand twins. The boy would wake up and pull his sister's hair and when she yelled then he would fall back to sleep immediately. When they put them into two cribs and the boy woke up they would play a recording of his sister screaming and then he would go straight back to sleep!

Hi cynthiann, eyes partly open. My son does that too, it is most peculiar. I think he just doesn't want to miss anything as he thinks sleep is a waste of time except on school mornings. If someone pulled my earlobe in the night I think I'd pull theirs right back, that should soon put an end to it. Or you could just sleep in a hat.

Funny you should mention hats. I used to sleep in a hat if a rat bat was in the room as my hair nearly reached my waist and I was sure that it would become tangled in my hair and would have to be cut out. I am deathly afraid of them. I used to say that my daughter slept like that so she could see if I left the room!

Oh dear. Hmm, well I don't have kids but my niece has a somewhat violent fit when she sleeps. When she'd sleep over and she would be sleeping with me in my bed, sometimes I'd wake up because her fist would find it's way up my nose or her knee would drive its way to my stomach or leg.

Well, I don't have kids so I haven't faced this type of situation. But I know some kids are very disturbing at night. The don't want to sleep and cry a lot. That make people annoyed for sure. But after all they are just little kids and every moment except the time they are not sleeping is their playing moment.
