Mascherano moving to Barcelona?

If reports coming from UK are to be believed Liverpool are weighing a 36 million pound offer by Barcelona for Javier Mascherano. Looks like Mascherano has already agreed to the personal terms. If that happens it would be another high profile exit form the reds after Alonso in the summer and would leave a major hole in the midfield. Your views please... Cheers! Ram

Liverpool can sell Mascherano if they need to have funds to buy more players going forward. Cheers! Ram

That is true. I think Benitez is trying to groom Lucas into the Mascherano roll, but Lucas is not yet in the same class!! Cheers! Ram

it is interesting imagine if Liverpool again lost their great defensive midfielder. it`s lucky team who can buy Mascherano.

Well if the deal seals up, as a Liverpool fan I wouldn't be that sad. I mean Liverpool purchased Alberto Aquilanni this season. He hasn't played, but soon he will, plus there are several rumors about De Rossi going to Liverpool so the midfield would be filled up. I think what Liverpool needs is someone that could help Gerrard in the offensive, someone that could dribble through players and pass the ball to the forwards. Hope Liverpool can get back on track and make a good season.

Yes, the midfield is filled up but with mediocre players. As soon as Alonso left, the passes stopped coming for the attacking players and that meant the goals dried up. If Gerrard and Torres don't play that Liverpool team looks mediocre, just another top-10 team and not a title contender. Cheers! Ram

Mascherano playing for Barcelona??? Can I object to that? What ever happened to all the good midfielders in the world? Sorry, but I just don't see him in Barca's team... I hope the transfer won't go through.

I think they are looking at him as a replacement for Yaya Toure if he decides to move on. I believe the Man City offer has unsettled him at Barca and he might move on over the summer transfer window. So they are looking at Mascherano as the backup. Cheers! Ram

I think Masch will exit Liverpool. I think Liverpool won't be able to offer him CL football next season looking at their current situation. However, this will give the chance to Aquilani to show his quality whom I think is a better player compared to Lucas. With the 36m that Benitez have, he would have the money to buy at least 2 high profile names to strenghten his already depleted squad. With 2 strong additions, it will at least help not losing Gerrard or Torres to other big teams. Cheers!

I still think Liverpool will make it to the last Champions League spot given the inconsistency of the teams above them. Man City have lost touch with winning. Villa usually have a bad after Christmas period. Tottenham blow hot and cold, for them to remain in the top 4 for long. I still have a feeling that Liverpool will sneak in. Cheers! Ram

I think: 1. It would leave a gaping hole in midfield. Lucas would probably start every game, dooming the Reds to relegation, or the ignominy of a lower-half finish, 2. Mascherano hasn't been as good this season as he was last, 3. Mascherano appears unsettled, 4. You could buy a lot of no-hopers for £36 million... £36m is a great price for Javier. With serious money, Liverpool could look to restructure this season in preparation for a challenge next... Still not keen, though. It's yet more disruption in a flailing team.

Yes, I don't think Lucas is a top 4 club midfielder. He can be at one of the workman clubs like Everton, but certainly not for Liverpool. I have a sneaking feeling that this might be Rafa's last year at Liverpool as to me he seems to be a bit disinterested this season. Cheers! Ram
