Hi, Meteor showers happen at the same time every year.
There are many different meteor showers, they are dust from the tail of a comet, they continue to orbit the Sun in the same orbit as the comet.
Here are some other meteor showers, and their peak dates.
Most showers last for several days, one of those days is better than the others because Earth is in the main body of the orbiting comet debris. The peak.
There are amny meteor showers, they get their name because they appear to emanate from that particular constellation.

The wiki page above lists the known and defined meteor showers and the dates they appear.
Some showers have many meteors per hour, some only a few.
Some showers are only visible from either the northern hemisphere or the south.
The speeds this material enters our atmosphere also varies considerably.
Meteors that are seen after sundown and before midnight are catching up with and overtaking the Earth when they hit our atmosphere.
Meteors that are seen after midnight and before dawn are sitting ducks and the Earth has actually caught up with them, and hit them, not the other way around, although from the ground it appears they fell into our sky.
Here is a wonderful page on the Leonids and meteor showers.
