Women leaves her four kids under five home alone for 24 hours

November 17, 2009 5:02am CST
I was reading the paper today and saw the story about this 22yr old women who left her 4 kids home on their own while she went out on a drink and drug binge. Her oldest child was 4yrs old and the youngest only 3 months old. The baby was found covered in urine as he hadn't been changed in 24hrs and one of the other children had vomit over them. They had tried to eat the powdered baby milk left in the kitchen and had pushed chairs to try and find food in the cupboards. Whats worse is the mother only received a suspended sentence. Her four kids are now in the care of their grandparents, but what is this country coming too letting the mother of so lightly?

Sounds like one of those great situations where someone who isn't actually capable of taking care of themselves has kids. I'm glad she got caught but I think she should actually serve some time or be made to do a lot of hard community service. I know it isn't really the case that anyone under 25 is a self-absorbed idiot but sometimes it does seem that way!

Well said paintwithwords. I had my three children by the age of 21. I think I am a good mother, my kids are well mannered and are doing well at school. With one exception as my eldest has autism which brings its own challenges, but he is still well mannered and knows right from wrong

How about the father? it looks like that this mother has a problem that she left her children alone at their home without getting worried about them. Those children are so lucky enough that nobody has been caused with a serious injury.

I said "I know it isn't the case .... but it sometimes it does seem that way". I didn't say MOTHERS either, I said ANYONE. Some people read "This is the case.... it is that way". or possibly "any mother under 25 is eeeeviiiiilllll!" Weird.

she is a total disgrace I am a single dad of 3 kids from 6 down to 1 year old, I would never dream of letting them out my sight let alone what she done. The sad thing is its child abuse but the kids will still love her so even if the kids are taken off her that will affect the kids adversely. She is a disgrace to all the mums and dads out there who cope and spend every hour of everyday with their kids to give them the best start in life. I hope she gets lynched as she doesnt deserve kids when theres thousands of people wanting kids who cant have them.

I agree. I hope she has some conscience and will live with the regret for the rest of her life. Hopefully in that way she will get punishment for what she has done, as the justice system of this country hasn't given any. I had 3 children by the time I was 21yrs old. I have never left them alone. There were times I found things difficult, but you have to be strong and cope for the sake of the children that you brought into the world. The kids didn't ask to be here, she had them and has a duty to care and look after them. She has failed them terribly and I hope one day she will see what she has done. Thanks for the reply.

This is sad, and also a little eerie. My aunt was removed from her parents home at age 5 (the oldest) for being left with the 3 younger kids home alone. This was in the 60's. If her father had not in a drunken rage killed her mother they would have been sent back to them. The court had only removed them for 2 months in the thought that she would miss her babies enough to clean up her act. I would like to know what the story was as to why. Did she go to work and not find a sitter or afford one? Did she go out partying?

deepa moorthy's comment is correct.if parents having responsibility in childs' life should give birth. they have take care at most in each and every seconds of their life. it should in the life style of ' go and let life'.

life is like a spider web. it is interconnected with basic value of life. husband and wife getting in to life.they mutually getting together in married life and give birth a child. they have to live together for the sack of the child.life should be dedicated for their children'life and future.

Dear friend, It is really pity whenever I hear such incidents or news where mother do cruelty to their own kids. In my place I had read and heard several news like this. I hope now father would be a better guardian for kids, may be a good father. The recent issue which I read in newspaper was that a mother killed her baby to get married to her lover and hide her pregnancy issue.

Some people don't deserve to be parents. She should not have gotten off that lightly.....what is the lesson in all this. I'm sure it did not bother her a bit that the kids were placed with a permanent babysitter. She will now probably be able to see them when she wants and party all she wants without fear of getting into any trouble. Luckily the kids are fine but climbing around and eating whatever anything could have happened.

Such a sad, sad situation. I was afraid to let my very young children (under 6) play in the back yard without my supervision. It just really turns my stomach to think of those little ones home alone needing food & care and no one to give it to them. The poor baby needing changing probably has diaper rash like you wouldn't believe. I am usually the type of person to say "but walk a mile in the other persons shoes" and you will see why they did this or that. But to me there is no excuse at all for this. It is a shame that she did not get a larger sentence for this crime. And it is a crime!!!! Poor kids I am glad that they are with their grandparents now. Hopefully they are getting the care that they deserve & need.

That's just sad. It's awful when grown women act like children. Her poor kids. Just because a woman can get pregnant and give birth, doesn't mean she should be a mother.

it is a bad thing what kind of mother is she.i don't know why they give birth to childerns when they can't take care of them .wonder she has given birth every year. when she has no capabilities to take care of one.where did the father of childerns go.even he is so irresponsible.

Poor mother, that 20-weeks in jail and two years of suspension are not enough for her to pay for whatever unreasonable acts she portray as a mother to her four children. I really felt sorry for the kids because their mother doesn't love them at all. I did say love because for me if you really love your kids then you will do anything to provide whatever they need in terms of emotional or physical aspect in life. You will always be there for them to take care from the very start of their existence.

It is very sad. why happened, she don't know about the value of life.she have to realize which is valuable. her children or drink. her action seems to be animals. they let their puppies alone and it will roaming some where.caring her children is her responsibility.

That is sad! How could someone leave their children alone like that? How dare they let her off that easy! She should get years in prison for doing that! This makes me angry!

I saw this from another member here. It's sad and people like that shouldn't have kids at all. I don't get why she just got a suspended sentence. Anything could've happened to those kids. It's awful. She just got a slap on the hand for being irresponsible.

That is terrible. I can not believe that a mother would do something like this to her own children. I think it is even worse that the mother was only given a suspended sentence. If I were the judge I would have given the woman jail time and would have had the grandparents granted full custody. The kids did not deserve to be treated this way. Also, I feel bad that you had to read a story like this. I can imagine how you felt when you read the story. I am sure your first reaction was how did this woman ever become a mother.

Normally, this shouldn't be done. -_- This woman had serious issues. But maybe she had a very good reason to defend her case. The newspapers don't always print out ALL of the information.
