Too many vampires?

Are there too many vampire novels out there? While there are some good ones is it sometimes a case of people trying to cash in with some not very original or good writing as well - so you end up with some bad vampire novels that suck in more ways than one? Which is your favourite vampire novel or vampire character? Which is the worst book or character you have found?

I first started reading the Twilight series when I was in 7th grade, before it got all famous. I have to say, it was my favorite book for a long, long while! Then, everyone started reading it. That was okay. What made me end my love affair with the Twilight series was when people started to simply watch the movies and think that they knew everything about poor little Edward! Now, instead of being the best vampire book that I have ever read, it's the worst!

That kind of things sucks. We have a show over here called University Challenge where college teams answer all kinds of questions against each other. The other week there were a question about "Chocolat" by Joanne Harris (good read, get yourself a copy) and the guy on the team who THOUGHT he knew the answers had obviously only seen the film - which is why he got the answers wrong! Ha ha! One thing that bugs me about some of the Twilight fans is that if you are describing any vampire novel they'll go "That's like Twilight" when it was written before the Twilight novels never mind the movie! I think it's a general thing where people see a film and it impresses them but they don't really know the books or even the wider genre. Thanks for your reply!

Aside from Twilight series, I'd read Interview with the Vampires and True Blood. These books are all great and fascinating especially if you adored stories of suspense, thrill and horror. I loved the Twilight series because the story is so simple, fresh and romantic, it is just light with no gore involved, I loved its theme because it adheres to a parental guidance platform. Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice is more mature and a little bit gross, it has lots of adult scenes. True Blood is another adult vampire story, lots of gore, blood and sensual scene not suited for public exhibition. So far I had not read worst vampire books, but the worst vampire characters are that of True Blood antagonists and Lestat (played by Tom Cruise in the movie) of Interview with the vamp..I just don't like his character.

Though I do not read vampire novels, I do however know that there are some people there with vampire characteristics: These people will indeed extract energy from you and left you drained, if you do not know how to chase them away. Some people refer to them as psychic vampires.

hmm id say yes though i haven't read many of them because i'm more into dragon type things. i can state three books for this purpose though. the best i have ever read would have to be memnoch the devil which is an anne rice novel but much better than the others i think though they are all good in my opinion. one thats in teh middle because its good and original but rather sick is ancestral hungers by scott baker. and one that is ok but the worst is the necroscope series i cant remember the author but they are kind of dry though they are a very unique look at vampires as well as many other supernatural phenomina.
