Today the future can seem bleak. We have a rough looking recession bordering on depression in the USA. We've two wars that appear to be going only into bloody quagmire rather than to victory of any sort. I have written several posts on subjects of this nature, and here is another.

This post? This post is about kids. Kids appear to be interested more in the antics of pop stars than in history; American or otherwise. Few can be teased away from their cell phones, computers, or iPods to take a look around. Or so it would seem if you read the mainstream or unkind media. A visit to a shopping mall will also give this view of kids and teens. Kids are seen laughing in packs where I live in the latest gear for the most part. There is anxiety though, under that colorful hair.

There are exceptions. Perhaps there are many, if one goes and digs deep into the well of youthful psychs. One exception of childish conformity is named Will Phillips.
*
On the surface, you would think that ten year old Will is unpatriotic in that he is refusing to salute the American flag blindly in his fifth grade classroom. That is not the case. Will is out to right what he perceives to be a grave wrong. The flag is a symbol of freedom and rights. Be he right or wrong, this kid knows his civics, and his government better than many so called adults.
*
I offer no opinion myself. At least this kid is thinking about something outside of himself.
