Being a stepmom was very tough for me in the begining. My two stepsons did not move in with us until after we were married. They were use to the way that their mother did things and did not want to change; but as soon as we all had one set of rules and everybody knew what their role was things have gotten much better. It took alot of give and take on all parties. Now my stepsons are just my sons and they love and respect me as I do them. The only steps in our house lead out the front door and to the driveway. It is funny sometimes as the usually refer to me by my first name but the will occasionally slip up and call me mom. We all laugh about it and carry on. They know that I will never try to replace their mother but they should feel comfortable enough to talk to me as if I was their mother.
