I really love decorating cakes. I would love to do it professionally, but I'm a beginner at best. I always do my kids birthday cakes and try to make them better each year. Especially since there are all of these cake shows on tv now, I'm so inspired. But I'm sure doing it for a living is pretty hard. Right now, I do it because I enjoy it and my family loves to eat it. My cakes never turn out exactly the way I planned either, but if they came out perfect, I don't think I'd want to eat them. Have fun with it!

I'm not much of a cake person eating them or baking them. My granddaughter though likes to decorate them. She works in a baker and is an apprentice now. She does a real good job when she gets the chance. She also has to bag bread and wait on customers so she doesn't get to decorate cakes as much as she would like. She does a loy of cakes for her friend's birthdays and get to practice that way.

I have made chocolate cakes, butter cakes and cookies. But the cakes I made didn't turn out to be the way i wanted -- soft and fluffy. It is always hard. I think it takes a lot of experience and time to truly bake a professional-looking cake. We need tips from professional cake makers.
