In myLot is it Better to Read or to Write?

This discussion is in honor of a new myLot friend. His English is not perfect yet, but I like that he tries to use complete sentences and explain his feelings in detail. Sometimes new people are just here to make a little money and they use as few words as possible. This new friend makes it seem that he is actually interested in what people say. I like to welcome new people to myLot and it does not matter at all to me whether or not they have perfect English as long as they are fair-minded and interesting and have something to share. But I remember how confusing myLot was to me when I first came here. Some people love to start new discussions and some would prefer to just comment on the discussions other people start. I like to start a new one once in a while, but my many myLot friends keep me very busy just replying. How about you? Would you start more discussions if you had time? Do you feel a little guilty if you don't reply to the discussions that your friends start? Do you enjoy reading what others write or just think of it as a duty?

I respond to the discussions I find that I can respond to. Whether it be friends or not. I will go back to a discussion later if I think of something, sometimes it's months later and I had forgotten about the discussion! I think it's better to just do what you feel comfortable with. If you're here for money, respond, discuss and comment as you wish as long as it's within guidelines. If you're here for friendship or advice, then still follow guidelines, but maybe not worry about being as punctual... Or be punctual for both counts, whether it be for money or for friendship.

This is good advice for new and old alike. I go back to "old" discussions, too. I think sometimes people who are new here are confused by the guidelines. I certainly was, and sometimes still am.

I know I can find myself to be confused by the guidelines as well! please forgive my delay in responding, I am trying to be better about that, but am afraid once I start work it will only be worse.

Hey drannhh! I love to just reply to discussions and that is pretty much what I'm known for! In fact, when I do start a new discussion my friends tease me about it! I did happen to start one tonight, but that is a different issue. It was because there was something upsetting me that I needed to talk about, but that is an unusual occurence for me! I'd much rather respond to my friends discussions because that is what I feel more comfortable doing! And as for your new friend, please point me to him and it would be my pleasure to help him in anyway that I can! I don't believe that someone has to have perfect English to get around here! A true mylotter will help anyone, if they really care, and I am a true mylotter! I love to make new friends, especially ones that are from different parts of the globe! That is what mylot started this forum for! Please let your friend know that I would love to be his friend too! Hugs, Opal

Well, if he is smart, he will find this discussion and come and read what you have to say, and also see what nice friends I have here ;-) We will see if he speaks up or not. I hope I have not embarrassed him. That is why I did not mention his name, that and I see some other newbies are identifying with the topic too. YAYYY!

Well, it has been two weeks and he has not found it yet, but he has been busy starting his own, which is sort of poetic if you think about it.

I love reading what others wrote. There are so many interesting discussions started constantly. I also enjoy writing and seeing what responses my discussions get. Sometimes, I feel guilty a bit if people respond to my discussion, and read it, but don't reply. There are many reasons why this happens. It's all good, in the end, as Mylot is foremost about enjoying the experience. This is reflective in almost every person I've met on here. Such nice people! :-)

When I have been away for a few days I just have to delete all my myLot notifications without looking at any because my mailbox is just too full. But I know my friends understand.

Hi drannhh How are you doing today? Good I hope. It is only Tuesday and I have had such a stressful two days. I looking forward to tomorrow with the hopes that it will be better.... I always try to respond to my friends. I have a few that I keep close tabs on. Most of the others I try to respond to the ones that I know how to give a comment on. There is alot of discussions that I have no ideal what they are talking about and it is hard for me to respond. Maybe I should just give some kind of comment to let them know that I did notice their discussion. Have a great day and keep smiling...

Some of my myLot friends talk about television shows and those are about the only ones I cannot respond to because I hardly ever turn on the tv. You are a terrific myLot friend and I always look forward to seeing what you have to say. You keep smiling, too!

...Hi drannah. I think it is interesting to read what others are saying. There are so many different perspectives on so many different subjects that you are always learning something new. I also like to write comments if I think I have something that would be of value to the conversation. There are things that I have learned since I started on the site that I never knew before. So this site is very educational and interesting. Take it easy. Good luck to your new friend.

I like writing, but I like reading too. The reason I joined here was to have a place to get advice, share stories, and get paid. I know there must be some reader only people here, but I don't understand them. They just read others' discussions and never have an opinion of their own that they feel like sharing? That sounds like someone with self-esteem issues.

Truly, and that is why we call them lurkers, but some people here start a lot of discussions and then never even read the responses they get. For me that would sort of defeat the whole idea of a discussion.

I think eloouuu's comment says it all, because that's exactly how I look at MyLot too. She certainly deserves a BR from you! I don't start many of my own discussions these days because of other commitments, but I try to reply to most of my friends' discussions, as and when I can. That keeps me quite busy - and yes, I do enjoy reading my friends' discussions. I believe in quality, not quantity.

Yes, being a retired English teacher, I read eloouuu's first sentence and said to myself, "This is going to be an A+" Being a good myLot friend can keep one busy! But this is how we learn new things. I think we learn more from following other's discussions than from just starting our own.

I enjoy the reading and the writing. I'm hardly in it for the money, I've been a member quite awhile and I've only made $1.96 so far, this is not the best money making site I've seen. I love the various topics and I respect those that are trying to improve their English by joining in discussions. Here I get a glimpse of different cultures and a variety of opinions. I'm a person with many opinions and interests so this forum is perfect for me. I haven't any friends on MyLot, in a way I keep it that way but I wouldn't mind having a friend here but I'm careful as to who it would be. I've started a couple of discussions, they went nowhere, only a couple of replies, that's ok. MyLot isn't a big money maker but the diversity of people and topics makes it well worth my time.

I agree that one has to be careful in choosing friends in real life, but here they have a slightly different meaning for the word "friend" -- here we are expendable. I am not here for the money either, but I do think it adds an interesting dimension. It took me months to get my first payout but then after a while I was reaching payout every month and have now bought some nice presents for myself with the myLot earnings. My first few discussions went nowhere either, but after a while I started getting a few more responses and then after I had more people on my "friend" list, some of them went back and revived my old discussions so that now they all have at least a few responses. I will go look at some of yours now. Thanks much for stopping by.

I always make an effort to read my friends topics to see what's going on in their worlds and that they are okay.Sometimes when I write topics I jumble my words and forget to check it and everyone kind enough to overlook it when I have a word salad moment..lol.I wish I was able to write more topics to share with the masses but mainly I reply more then write I think I am too unfocused to start topics but find so many interesting things my friends and fellow mylotters write, that I spend more time doing that.I enjoy reading things on here for fun more then anything.I have been off and on Mylot since I got here and it still confuses me at times.lol!I think your friend is doing just fine and I love when someone shows interest in what I write too. and understands where I am coming from.x

This is so true. Some of the things that interest me do not appeal to the average member, if there is such a thing here. But I am getting many nice responses to this one. Yes, word salad moments. Everyone has those, and what a nice expression you have coined there.

Thank you for your welcome "drannhh"... I say Mylot is better for both. If we read it is worth for our mind, we can upgrade our knowledge according to the topics. But writing benefits more than reading in mylot, because mylot pays for our writings(typing). So here both Reading and Writing are mutually exclusive. Now I'm jumping to answer your next question... If I have any doubt and if I can express it in mylot, next moment I'll just start my new discussion. I'm just lagging on commenting the other discussions which I've never responded. More often I enjoy reading other discussions.

Glad to have your insight. I always find that when I am reading discussions other people start that gives me ideas to start my own. I like to see all the different comments other people make in discussions started by my friends. That usually leads to new friends, too :-)

hi drannhh,i am new here, first i thought that we can earn money in this site just by posting,so i used to select many topics, slowly my mind changes,i love here to start discussion ,if any thing really i want to discuss and i give response to the discussion only if i am interested in those topic or anythings to say, some discussion i just read alone,in order to know about others opinion.so i too both read and write.

Hiya drannhh, I'm so loving your avatar pretty much. It's just so cute! Back to the subject of your discussion, I think that as a long-time member of mylot, you are very humble and I can imagine you welcoming new members with open arms. I don't mind too knowing that some new members are not so good in English. I always tell myself that they have tried their best and to give them a chance to be a part of this cool community. So for me, open arms to them too..

Thats so nice of you to dedicate a discussion to your friend .Like you mentioned most persons are only here to make money and not to build relationships and interact with others. With regards to your friend I take time out to read discussions even if they arent perfect as long as I can understand what they are saying .After all everyione has something to say and teh idea is to transfer your ideas to someone else.I do both here at mylot I read and I post ,granted I do more posting than reading

I chose to only stick to starting one discussion a day because that way I am not undertaking more than I can handle to respond to in a given day. I also don't feel guilty if I don't respond to all of the discussions that my friends started, but I do make an effort to respond to all of the discussions that have been started by my friends that interest me. However, there are some discussions that they start that are of no interest to me. Two people can have a lot of things in common, but no matter what, there are always going to be some things in our lives which diverge from each other.

And similarly people who have very little in common might be in strong agreement on one or two issues. I rarely start discussions, but if they all turn out as well as this one, I would probably start more. This has been fun.

Hi drannhh !!! how are you doing.I liked the topic you have raise on the platform of mylot.Yes its really very hard to balance out which one out of the two one must follow i.e. whether to response or post a new topic? After going through quite a few of the responses on your topic I am still not clearly understood the another angle you have raised to someone's response the new angle you brought out is the EARNING's from mylot. First of all I must response to your original topic,I would rather like to provide my response to interesting topic rather than post my discussions, but in realty I generally start my own discussion, then responding. I have responded to you and avoided responding to at the same time How? okey the subject that i found to be of valuable I responded and the topic that does not interest me I avoid and again even if the topic becomes boring I still respond then the person comes into play with whom I am attached,B'coz at the end the earning comes into play. On the other hand the second subject i. e. earning angle even though we are all of us on the mylot platform and always remain grateful to the MYLOT but at the same time does all these Internet sites on which we are working really pays enough to earn our livelihood, the answer is big NO. again It could be Yes but only for those guy who are Software engineer, programmers and so on.Hence at the end I don't think that the people who are posting few discussion are doing so for earnings only, there's much more to it.I hope you agree with me and PL. give your response.

Thank you Rocket, and yes I think we are in agreement. When starting a discussion I try to ask a lot of questions so that maybe everyone will find at least one interesting enough for a reply. I do expect anyone to answer them all, but they are more than welcom to try. It is just nice if anyone shows up. The only topics I find boring here are the ones that many other people have already discussed and then somebody comes along and does it again without having first searched

I wouldn't pick one over the other because I think they both are equally beneficial. If you read here, you can learn and pick up a thing or two. If you write here, you improve your English as you go along. The more you practice, the more you get better at the language. So, I can't choose between the two. I don't always respond to everything people post here but I do participate, obviously. I participate more than I start my own discussions. I try to post 1-2 of my own discussions per day if I can.

I will keep an eye out for one of your discussions then. I think people who post 6 or more discussions every day are pushing the envelope a bit. Usually they are the ones who never come around to mine. 1-2 is quite reasonable. I agree that reading and writing here are equally beneficial.

I respond to discussion if its interesting or the question or discussion is catchy but on the contrary it is safe to respond to something you know that benefits the other. There maybe discussions that are nonsense but still we respond to it maybe because it makes us smile or its quite destructing.
