It all depends on what you are looking for. Is the dog going to be an indoor or an outdoor dog? Do you have small children? What kind of activity can you provide for the dog? Do you live in a house or an apartment? All of these factors should be considered when looking for a dog. I am partial to my papillion but she fits perfectly into our life style. Remember when choosing a pet you are making a lifetime committment so picking based on others opinions of a breed may not mean that is the right animal for you.

I think a lot of dogs are great.
At home I have a Beagle. Beagles are used to hunt foxes in England, but ours is just a family dog.
Some characteristics: Playful, needs a lot of attention and stubborn.
You may have a hard time to train a Beagle. Our beagle doesn't listen all the time but he is a good dog.
But I think if we will buy another family dog it will be another race.
