Anyone have a good tasting pizza dough recipe? I have a bread machine and have used that, used Bisquick, store bought crusts - all the 'homemade" kinds of dough there are, but for some reason, they just don't have that unique flavor that a pizza place pizza has. I can't put my finger of the flavor... other than possibly a bit of sugar in the dough, but these that I make, they just don't have that special flavor. Frankly, there doesn't seem to be much a flavor at all.. just a tasteless crust. Anyone make homemade pizza dough got any suggestions for a really good tasting curst?

I've never made homemade dough but I saw one pizza place put parmesan cheese on the crust. Now normally I don't like parmeson cheese but on that pizza it was good. Maybe they all add it and I just didn't know it. Maybe that is your missing ingredient.

I put parmeasan cheese on the bottom first before everything even the sauce, the sprinkle more with the cheese. But not actually on the curst.. haven't tried that. Will give it a shot. For some reason I am thinking sugar. But then again, it is just soemthing... that flavor at a pizza place vs. mine.. just can't identify it. I bought a new pizza pan today so I hope that helps with the baking..and maybe that could be part of my problem.. the pan. I"m trying it this weekend.

Well I am a health food nut so maybe you wouldn't like mine, but I make whole grain crusts and most recently I made one out of 7 whole grains (mostly oats as they cook up softest in bread dough), with sweet onions and fennel. It was SO flavorful, but probably not the taste you are looking for. My favorite one is flavored with green curry paste and it is hot!

No, that isn't what I am looking for, but then if I was a health nut, it probably would be!

I've read recipe-sharing was not allowed, and I don't even have good recipes here myself. But I suggest you check out FoodGawker.com. They have recipes and a whole lot of other things related to food there. Just a warning: you might get hungry. =)

I didn't know that wwa not allowed, but I am not asking for a recipe. Just an ingredient. Pizza dough, no matter who makes it, is just flour, water, tad of oil, salt and yeast. I've seen many recipes. It is some little something that makes the taste there or not.. that is what I am looking for. I've made the dough in my bread maker with yeast...it rolls fine and all but the flavor is just not as a pizza place dough has flavor. I know part of it is probalby the heat of the oven.. they have an industrial one that is super hot, mine is a household one.. 500* max. I have seen The Food Channel shows about pizza and someof those ovens hit 900* to bake the pizza! I was just thinking, maybe sugar in the dough, or ... something.
