Is accepting Christ a one time event or a life long process?

People tell me they accepted Him on a certain date and then act like there is nothing more to do. I feel like we have to accept Him on different levels at different points in our life as we learn more and change. What are your thoughts on this?

Colossians 2:2-3 (New International Version) 2My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I agree! There is a lot more to being a Christian than accepting Christ in our lives, it is just the beginning. Then we must follow in his footsteps, reflect his qualities in our lives. We must also preach the gospel as he did. We must also obey all his commandments.

Like in marriage, once we say, "I do", we do not have to repeat it again, same is with accepting Christ. We have to accept Him only once and then we never have to repeat it again. Only thing thereafter we have to do is to remain a good Christian.
