"I wish everyday were Christmas." - is it grammatically correct?

sorry to be asking this. but i am just confused.. why not say "i wish everyday WAS christmas?" can someone explain this to me?

I think it should be 'I wish every day was christmas'. Like you would say 'I wish every day was this sunny', or 'I wish every day was this great'.

I think it should be... " I wish everyday is Christmas ".. with the word everyday, means present and recurring.
