I learned I'm allergic to Fire Ants shortly after moving to Florida. (I don't think they were in Indiana, where I used to live.) I have tried all kinds of ways to get rid of them, all to no avail. Well, this morning, I noticed a couple were on my kitchen countertop ..... then, all of a sudden, the countertop was covered with them! Yikes! I went to Ace Hardware, and picked up some more "fuel" to use to fight them with, but if you have suggestions, please let me know! I'll be waiting for any and all responses! Thanks!

I have been doing pest control in Texas for 22 years and this is the surest attack the homeowner can do. It's referred to by Texas A&M as the Texas two step... First you need to address the individual mounds with an insecticide drench. Any liquid insecticide, even diluted down a couple of times will give you an almost instant elimination of the nest. Spot treat all the nests that you can, how much liquid to use can determine on the size of the mound you are treating. Follow up with a broadcast of a granular bait product either the insecticide like amdro or the growth regulator like Logic. Address any new mounds as they may appear with the liquid drench. Note that if you have a mound pop up next to a side walk, the main part of the nest is under the side walk, so even after drenching a few days later a new mound or two may pop up nearby that will need to be addressed. The same with very large mounds, you probably will not get enough of the drench on the mound quick enough to keep the colony from scattering under ground, in which a new mound or two will show up within a few days that will need to be addressed.
