Workplace boredom plagues a lot of employees. For some reasons, it just happens to a lot of us. Most common reason given by many is that they are given repetitive tasks that are not at all challenging. When employees get bored, they become less productive. When that happens, the company will suffer the consequences. How can employees effectively get over boredom in the workplace?

Some companies have job rotation to ease employees’ boredom. Well I seldom get bored at work anymore ever since I am here at Mylot. When I am at Mylot it keeps the boredom away as I usually participate in discussions and sometimes I bump into my friends here and comment back to each other even if our comments are not anymore connected to the topic.

Mylot can sure help with boredom :) I just get bored if I see too many responds on the same discussion and I want to find someone I can comment on his respond. Many topics and discussions even about the boredom itself. I got some nice tips here about boredom.

_"THE WAY YOU STARTED YOUR DAY FOLLOWS TILL THE END OF THE DAY", that's why always wear your perfect smile, get busy at your own work, do lots of extra efforts to be appreciated by your employer at the end of the day and think positively. Avoid over reacting on things that would destroy your day such rumors which may not be good to you. It is simply doing things on your own. dont expect your managers do the things that should start on yourself.

That's a good tip about how to be productive but I think , boredom can sometimes make one not willing to give more and do extra. The boredom can just make the person not working. Many people feel like slaves for nothing if they give more at the work and don't get paid for it... I personally do extra on my work to prevent mistakes and to save time for the tasks that can show up later. It does bore me though.

well, where i work there is always something to do to keep busy. the thing is, even if its a repetive task, you could listen to music or think about other things. you have to make tasks inteesting and fun even if they arent.

Yeah, we can always make our tasks interesting especially if we are not limited by so many rules and regulations that actually make work more boring.

Employees can effectively get over boredom in the workplace by changing their style of working. For example is experimenting on the job, if what will happen if he will made mistake or doing a mistake while working. They must also try the "kwentohang barbero style" where in while working they tell stories to each other. You must make your work memorable everyday by doing something interisting. Playing also in your computers will reduce boredom. You may also change your environment to see a better view in the workplace.

It might be risky experimenting, and on that level, I would agree with shaunn. On one side, playing while at work can be fun but of course a lot of companies have policies on this, be careful.

Employees should consider looking for a job that best suit them. Although it will be hard given the number of employees and to land on such a job, at the end any employee would be greatly benefited by doing such. But when already employed I think its best to always try to look for something to do or try to do things with friends, converse about anything that may help lessen the boredom. Make things interesting, visit other workplaces and learn other things than the task that has been given or even go to the extent of knowing any individual in the workplace. Doing such might help lessen the boredom.

Choosing a job that would best suit them as well as choosing the organization to work for is a good strategy. However, at present, a lot of people are having a difficult time looking for job.

Employees must first to do is to condition their minds in the work or in the career they choose to go into. They must consider that work have a lot to do, wherein there are times that they would decide to resign because of some reasons. Like, fatigue, and boredom that they can't really avoid especially in the environment of work. To get over the boredom is to enjoy their jobs even though how hard or how challenging it is because its their choice to work. Another is bring a radio or any gadget that would be use for listening music, but don't play on a loud sound, just enough for their hearing. Play or listen music that relaxes them, like classic, blues, opera or any music they prefer to listen. Because music sometimes bring relaxation, or enjoyment especially if the music is some kind of sentimental for them, funny. It also affect their feeling because of the message or the sound of the music. But I don't think its effective for others(employee). All I can say is love their job, love their Co-workers, love the company beacuse without love in all what they do is just useless.

I try to make it fun. I use my iPod to bring music into the work place, only fun upbeat kind of stuff. I try to post humor, jokes and cartoons as well. I try to be fun and make people laugh, in turn this makes the days go faster.

I'm so there....especially I feel like I'm stuck at a no end job. I do almost everything that is required of me to do at work plus more and I'm not getting any where and now its getting very boring because I come in and do the samethings over and over again day to day. Only thing that might change is the customers but the attitudes is even getting boring LOL.

Well, you might want to consider changing the way you do your daily tasks. That is if you are free to do so.

I think we should always try to make things interesting in whatever way we can, and try to switch up our routine occasionally to keep it interesting/challenging. I work at a dry cleaners and have for.. about 2 1/2 years, in the same position, and so on. The work itself gets to be pretty dull and repetitive and mindless, but I sometimes have the chance to step outside what I normally do to help resolve customer service issues and whatnot, which is something I never really did. Otherwise, I just try to be FUN while at work - chit chat with customers, joke around, and just in general come to work with a positive attitude. I experience a different kind of boredom while I'm at work usually - just when I'm all caught up with my work, and waiting to close..I literally don't have ANYTHING to do and so I try to keep myself busy with extra, side projects - organizing, cleaning, preparing for the next day, and just going above and beyond. Keeping me busy keeps my eyes off the clock and I'm less likely to be bored.

Hi maezee! Yes, it pays off to be resourceful! At times when we are already bored at work, we should find ways to keep ourselves glued to our work but somehow have some ways to recover from boredom.

boredom at work is not easy to deal with.Boredom in the things that we are doing can make us not interested to the job at all.Sometimes we only do those things because it is needed.Boredom is can be eliminated in the work place in doing things that we really don't do. For example if you are a filling clerk give more effort in doing your job be us organized as possible. If you already had this before try to arrange the folders according to events and colors. Boredom is can be eliminated by having relaxation after work just like walking in the park breathing fresh air,or when you have extra money from your salary treat yourself according to your budget.Eating ice cream is a cheap example.you could also watch happy movies, have enough rest because boredom may be the cause of tiring jobs.

according to my own experience, i think it would be best if you should first devote your self to the job. how be very assertive and always find ways to love your job and do things if you are not doing anything. you could be doing your work over and over but then its not that your already stuffed to the work its just that you might be losing your willingness or your passion for the job. why then does teachers end up to be in an organization for already 50 - 60 years? it is so because of their passion for the job. you should always bear in mind that before you enter a job be sure that it is what you want and not what others say yo do! Being bored is just in our mind. if we really want the job done with joy, then find ways to keep your self happy or alive during work hours.try to keep pace with what you do and think. don not stick to what you only think because you should balance your body to be really alive and do things even if they are small they could be something to make you happy or alive.

boredom in a workplace is one of the problem in a company. employees can overcome this by thinking of positive things towards their tasks. It is better for the employees to think that they're working for them to be promoted or for them to earn money. With this, employees will be more motivated to work. If they feel that they are starting to get bored, maybe they can set music if its ok with their boss, so that they can enjoy their work more. Employees can also get over boredom by thinking that if they work more productive, they can be promoted.

employees could get over boredom in the work place by doing the things that they dont usually do in the workplace. employees should also have to entertain themselves because if they dont, they would be stressed out at work and that their works or tasks would be affected, then the company would surely suffer because of the employee. there are things that could cause boredom, one thing is that the employee is not comfortable with the workplace, second, maybe because they are not suitable or the job is not for that employee, thats why employees are bored and they are not challenged to the job or tasks given to the employee.

Boredom is a state of stress and fatigue. It is a psychological problem that could make every individual get affected in every thing he does. It is a negative result of ignorance and unconsciousness. Hence, this must be avoided by every person especially when they are in their workplace. Another is that it makes the person less productive in what he or she is doing. As employees, we must get rid of it and by doing it we must identify the possible factors that makes us influenced by it. Sometimes, salary is not the main reason of it. There are other possible factors that really makes this boredom affect us. These are: not so interested in what one is doing, not comfortable with his or her workplace, not that dedicated on his activity, lack of challenging works, boring working environment and even boring co-workers. These can be avoided by the employees by just simply being dedicated really on his work, be serious enough in every thing he or she does and by just simply having a goal on his work. Having a goal makes every person interested to accomplish every activity. Employees must not think of other unnecessary things that could ruin their focus on his work.

...The employee can overcome boredom in the workplace by avoiding being negative and doing your job well because if you strive to exert your best effort at work, your attitude and feelings toward your job will also change positively. Perhaps an internal change in attitude can help relieve boredom as well. Some people feel better about performing routine or other tasks if they assign a higher purpose to them. Your job may not seem exciting at times, but the end result of your efforts could be rewarding to others. For example, spending all day in school may seem boring, but the end result is a better education and more opportuinities in life. If you make an honest effort to see the greater good in whatever you're doing, there is less of an opportunity to become bored. So the very thing that you have to do to be happy in your job is to avoid negativity.

Employees can get over boredom in the workplace by making them comfortable in the workplace. They should also commit themselves with their jobs. Make sure that they will have challenging and interesting tasks so that they will not be bored. They should do their best on the tasks that they are doing so that they will not be regretting in the end and they will be satisfied. They should also have the time to chat with their co-workers to relax and regain their strength to be more active in the working place.

Tasks, specially when repetitive, gets really boring. Monotonous jobs cause distractions and costing employers lost productivity. Lack of opportunity for new learning and development creates feelings of confinement. Taking on more responsibility and greater challenges can help stop the boredom. take trainings and seminars in order to learn something to enhance your skills or that builds new ones.

I think employees can get over to boredom effectively by doing things which are on their own interest. The things they really wants to do or they are not being forced to do. Their boredom does not start with what their employers ask them to do in the office but rather on the things they commonly do everyday without any alternative extra works to be busy of. A new approach would be to routine works, starting new and challenging projects, and getting up enough sleep.

I sometimes take boredom as an oportunity to think some good ideas but I can sometimes sleep because of boredom. If we know how to act while bored , it can make a good advantage over other bored people that lose their interest in what they do. I think , in the end , the boredom comes from the inside and it's only a matter of attitude. I can tell some people can make interesting things when they are bored : they can think about stuff that they don't think about most of the time , they can be creative.
