My first computer

I got my first computer about 1985. It was made by Radio Shack. It had no permanent memory. It had to be programmed in BASIC for anything you wanted to do. The only way to save anything was to hook up a cassette recorder to it and save the program on tape. It was capable of displaying in 64 colors, which I thought was awesome. Not 64,000 colors--just 64. I created a game on that machine. It was a really, really simple game, but consider how it had to be done. To create a character, I had to specify exactly which pixels would be turned on. To make that character move, I had to change individual pixels. It took a very long time to do anything but it was still a lot of fun.

Old Computer - An old computer set. It's older than me. An antique. It looks classic. Cool isn't it?
Wow. Is your old computer still working? If it is then it's quiet an antique you got there. It's older than me. Hehe. And you seem to be a computer geek. That's great. All my life I've been dreaming to be a computer engineer, programmer, or anything relating to computers. I just didn't had the chance to fulfill it. Good job! shadow41

well after reading the responses it seems people here are using computers for quite a long time now.....most of the computers which have been discussed here are more than my age......anyways my first pc had an intel pentium 4 1.6 ghz processor,40 gb samsung hard disk and only 256 mb of ram.....yeah it's an outdated pc,btu with respect to those discussed here its quite new......anyways I have had a new one but i still have that old robust one as a memoir of my first interaction with pc's.....

It's amazing how time marches on, isn't it? I worked in research in the early 80's - my first computer job was putting tickertape through a reader so the info could be uploaded! I had a hideous "Black box" PC that ran on steam and audio tapes. Each program took ages to load, and none of the info could be configured because the data was scrambled and kept putting "v's" on the end of everything. I quickly realised what I had, in essence, was a very large and troublesome pocket calculator - so I used that instead, and then tapped in the figures so it looked like the "program" had worked it all out! We used to play games, too. Tennis is strangely pacifying, when all you have is a screen with 3 simple text graphics ... much easier to escape the boss's attention than "Grand Theft Auto 2010."

Sure. I remember Pong. We thought it was awesome. Modern video games are incredibly complex, but they all begin with drawing something on a screen and then making it move around. Remember punch cards? What a chore!

Oh yeah I remember them...It took hours of programing and if you forgot to tape it, then you had to start all over again. The first thing I made was a Christmas song and wouldn't you know it, I forgot to put the tape in the slot. There was a place on the bottom where you put in the tape or you could plug in a small hand held recorder. I tried both and found the larger tapes worked best. Learned about programing and how hard it was then. Now it's a breeze, Sure glad things got easier as time went by. What took hours then now takes minutes.

My first computer is the gift by my grandfather. He is a thrifty man in his all life, but he treats us well and be generous to us. We all like him very much. My dad always tells me to work hard on my studies, i think doing a good job on my lesson would be the best gift for my family. I would fight for my future and offer good life for my parents in the future.

my very first computer was an atari. runs also in Basic. i had fun with it playing games and making some programs. good for me cause there are alot of games made for atari during those times. i dont have to make one to play with although i tried to one time. its a tedious job programming a game. the only thing that turns me off is when i'm loading a game. tape dives are very slow. sometimes it takes more than half hour load just 1 game.
