How long we can use the Mineral water (Aquafina, Kinley etc) cans?

Daily we are getting lots and lots of water to drink.Mostly we will throw the water cans then and there.Some times we used to carry and that and will use for housrehold purpose.How long we can use that water cans? And is it hygienic to use that water cans?

I have read somewhere in the net that bottle used can be bad for your health. When it is subjected to heat, that is. But when you re-use bottles as water bottles on you ref, then it would be safe, right? As long as you didn't put hot stuff on it, its safe to use. I also read this to be true that as long a you don't heat it, it will be safe to use.
