How to Stop Spammers?

How do we stop spamming? I've had enough of hate messages in my shoutbox in one of my blogs. I tried to ban the IP address, but this spammer keeps coming back with even more vengeance. He uses the same nickname but it's not linked so there's no way to see who he really is. He also keeps changing his IP address. Is there a way to stop spammers for good? The person who has been spamming me is getting a little too much. Lots of profanity and vulgarity.

You can block whole IP range rather than banning single IP address. For example, if you found spammer spamming you using IP address 192.168.1.247 then you can use these Range: 192.168.1.0:192.168.1.255

OK thanks for the tip but i can only block one IP address (each time), and I can only do that from the Shoutbox home page. Is there a way to block a range of IP addresses in this case?

Are you using your own domain or subdomain?

frankly speaking, if someone is just here to SPAM your blogs or chat box, the only way I could suggest is leave them alone.. the more we response to their act, they have good thought that they are in upper hand. just like what I did to one of my customer who scolded me a B.I.T.C.H.. I say thanks to her.. and just love the way she walk out from the store *angrily* Nowadays, I just couldn't be bothered to fight with ppl who I hardly know who are them.. ignore is being the best way..

When somebody uses that word, you reply saying "Thanks my son". And be polite. When somebody calls me a SOB, I will reply "Thank you brother"

you could create rules of spammer. as well as the white list and black list for email address. it is not a big deal.

Most IP addresses are variable not static, so blocking IP addresses really doesn't do much. I think the best you may be able to do is block the user, or some other such thing. Cheers.
