I am asking this because, when mumbai was attacked by terrorists, almost all the channels(including the channels from my state ,kerala) were showing news about the incident for the whole day.But i noticed that not even a single channel from Tamil nadu showed any news about the attack..not even a flash news was shown. I am telling this now, since i saw a recent tamil movie acted by kamal hassan,in which kamal says that not a single tamil channels showed news about the mumbai attack on 26/11..Suddenly i remembered that i felt the same thing 1 year ago when i went through the channels. Another thing i noticed is that english news channels of india care only about north india and west india.they dont care one bit about south india, especially kerala. Does this mean that indians lack unity? Will tamil nadu be a separate country?

Sometimes people from one state do care for the ones living in other state of a country. They do not care each other a littlr. They just do what they need to do. If you are in one state, and your girl friend is in anther state, I think you maybe can not marry each other. It just so.

There is no unity within the state and how can we expect unity accross states, this is because of the politicians they only canvas their people that we are this community and need to give support to this community only.when all politicians see the job as a service to indian people and not their community people, then only we can see unity accross the states.

Hello ravi. I've never met anyone from Mumbai, and I've never been there, so I can't answer that part of your question. Here in America, though, we tend to care about those around us. Or, at least we did before liberalism took control of the peoples mentality. Now a great many americans are self-centered children. We do, howevere care about what happens in other states. Our form of government is based on the caring about all. You can tell that if you read our Constitution without and preconditions. Liberals tend want to help the wrong people and ignpre those who actually deserve the help. However, we cincervatives still know the value of helping those in true need, so we pay attention, and, when we do help, we don't shout to the world "Hey,look at this great thing I did!!". No, the true helpers do it without the need for recognition and shy away from all the kudos that liberals tend to look for.

I guess it depends on how big your country is and how many people are living there. My country is very small, and with a population of only about 1.34 million we just HAVE to care for each other. Compare it now to India You have times more people in Mumbai only (about 14 million). There are so many different nations, different regions with a different cultural heritage in India, and so many different languages, which makes me wonder what is it, what all citizens of India have in common! But of course, huge population numbers, different culture, different religion, or whatever, can't be an excuse for some parts/states of the country to ignore the others in time of attacks, accidents and catastrophes.

someone may care about that but the others may not care about that at all. that depends on who have a warm heart and willing to show their kindness or not. also they must have good wealth to help others at the first hand. or i only care in mind would not be helpful at all.

In a time of more globalization, news gets to our access almost instantly via various media. In a big cities like beijing and shanghai, we have national, local, and foreign language channels to give a broad coverage. But I notice for smaller provinces, limited by resources, they just follow the national news. There is also great difference in depth of news, but with west china development, the region is taken into attention much more than before.

It is awfully sad that some politicians put state above the country. I think over the centuries we have not really been restricted by states in that sense as people have been open to people from other states. In fact, athithi devo bhavo is such an integral part of india, but off late this politicizing has made it real bad. I agree on some fundamental issues though, for e.g. jobs need to be given first to local people and then to the others. That is definitely one of government's prerogatives and that has to be addressed. But just beating up people from other states is uncalled for and should not be allowed at all. Cheers! Ram
