With expanding population, we are constantly striving for more land expansion projects to accomodate the rising population Sembcorp is pumping in 1 billion dollars with a water and power project in Oman. The plant will convert 57 million litres of sea water into fresh water daily. If Im not wrong Phoenix (US) has man-made lakes to facilitate the population right? remember seeing this on discovery channel only recently. Are there any other places in the world with such a practice? Just curious.

Hi. This is the first time I've heard about this. I don't know of any other countries doing the same to produce water. However, this is definitely a good news as we have a lot of fellow Filipinos working in the Middle East.

Yes it definitely is. The earth is made up of 70% sea-water. We are finally learning how to turn it into water for human consumption. With technology getting better, I hope the costs will be lower in the future.
