What can you say about the IFJ's declaration regarding the Philippines?

I just heard from a radio report that the International Federation of Journalists have declared that the Philippines is now a more dangerous place for the journalists as compared to Iraq. With the recent Maguindanao massacre, I could not really blame their organization for saying this.

yeah! its true.. very true.. mindanao is a very dangerous place.. and because of that the philippines itself has been considered to be dangerous.. well i guess journalists have expressed their freedom of speech by declaring that.. i wont blame them since most of the people who were victims of the massacre are media people.. this has to be stopped.. coz if justice wont be served here, then maybe in the future we might witness more of these crimes and massacres..

It's really disappointing that our country's reputation was tarnished just because of the misdeeds of some heartless individuals.

It really is a saddening thing for the Filipinos. To think, it has only been days since Manny Pacquiao gave glory to the Philippines. All the glory has been overridden by the inhuman acts of fellow Filipinos who value power more than life. I can't imagine that the Philippines has made it again in Number 1. The most dangerous place for journalists. How's that? =(

this is a really sad news.. maguindanao massacre was such a horrible incident that only evils could do. yes i agree that there isn't a safe place here on earth but i guess nobody here in manila could do such thing. i have nothing against mindanao nor maguindanao but my point is, there is something weird happening there. it's not normal and GMA should do something about it. Those guys wouldn't hesitate to do such thing because there is big people behind this or protecting them.

I really hope that the Arroyo administration would do everything to give justice for the victims and their families. And let us continue to pray for peace in the entire country.

Yeah I guess we cannot blame that organization fro declaring our place to be dangerous since the way the crime was made was really beyond civility. There seems to be no regards to value and is really just plain barbaric. The involvement was really callous since there were equipment that were used and left at the crimes scene that was a property of the provincial government.

Hi. I definitely agree with you. What happened was really barbaric. The persons who conceptualized and executed such act have no heart. It breaks my heart to see the sufferings of the victim's families.

can i just correct you people... maguindanao is only a portion of mindanao not the whole mindanao. everywhere you go there is always danger the only thing that would probably differ is that how severe the danger is. i was born and live in mindanao and insurgencies and all those fightings usually happened in the outskirts. kidnappings also is happening in manila, crimes and others. The culprits should be behind bars as soon as possible. if you ask the families of the victims, it is but obvious who to blame for what has happened and the govt. should have an iron fist in bringing justice to the victims regardless of political affiliation. we are again put in a bad light in the international arena because media men are involved in the casualty.

Hi. I understand your concern. I have been to different parts of Mindanao because of my audit fieldworks. I must say that I enjoyed my visits there, most especially the beautiful scenic spots and fresh fruits. IFJ has declared the Philippines to be the most dangerous place for media workers in the world because of the rising toll of unresolved deaths of their fellow journalists. The Maguindanao massacre has definitely risen the toll to an unacceptable level.

We'll who can blame them? before I may dis agree but with the recent killings in Mindanao, i would have to agree with them. Iraque is actually more safer because journalists avoid going there anymore. let's just hope that our justice system will work and will not give in to the pressure especially since it's public knowledge that the suspects are allies of the administration. Cheers!
