Job during studies . Does it effect studies?

India

Most of the students due to so many reasons do jobs during there phase of studies. some do it willingly mostly to earn some extra other than their pocket money to fulfil their desires those which would be turned down by their parents if they would ask them money for that. and some have to do it to meet their studies expenses. or some times they are without any guardian at head so have to earn to make the livings of their family Reason can be any .. BUT my main question is that does it effect studies. I know their are some extra ordinary students who can easily manage. but still they are only few perhapes 1% what about the other 99%.???

Well I'm in college now and I do have a part time job and I have a hard time going to work and studing since after my job I'm so tired that I just don't want to do any work and I just want to relax. Which makes it pretty hard to study and work at the same time. But I don't really have a choice since I need the money so I just have to deal with it.

Dear metalsolid86 the problem you have is the same case that is faced by majority of the masses today . As world economy today is going downwards , every now and then inflation attacks the economies. Even Developed countries are facing problem of unemployment due to this wages are low as people are forced to work at low rates to make their livings. And the Employers take the full advantage of this and put extra burden on their staff , even senior members are not co-operative . Specially students who are forced to do job face such kind of problem much more than experienced staff members as those experienced members also mostly ask them to perform their task. So with all these problems i really feel sorry for you but I hope that you won't give up and will not get this time get hold over you. Good time a head will surely come afterward . Wish you best of Luck . happy MyLotting

it is very tired to work during studies, so i think it is depend on the one who do both things. if he found that the studies are very easy to him and he do not know how to spend spare time.under this situation, i think it is good for him to work in spare time but the work should not very.for him, this job experience is a great chance to help him to fix his job after graduation,if opposite this case, it does effect studies. good luck and have a nice day!

I really agree to your point and would like to elaborate it a little more. I will suggest that if in any case a student has to work during his job he should try to find some job related to his Field of Study. SO that it will be helpful to him in the future and in the mean time he will also get the practical implementation of the studies he is in. And I am sure it will become much easier to do some job related to your field rather than doing something totally out of way as it will take much more attentions and time of your to do something that has nothing to do with your studies.

yea it does.......and i'm always amazed by the people who can manager both....... Even i need to do the same ....but both atleast on same day is too much for me....but one can try that if you are opting for a part time job.....i'm into full time 9 hours job...then it doesn't leave a lot of time for me to study at the end of the day.......then i have make some adjustments like cutting the entertainment time down...or the time sleep time......and that's where u need discipline and determination.....both of which i lack..... \,,,/

Dear hiteshrawat it seems that you are really working too hard for your studies. But once you will get through it you will feel lucky that you have struggled so hard for your life as it will definitly not only make you much experienced even in younger age but it will also improve your stamina. But at this level if you add some dicipline and self determination you will flourish well as well as it will become more easier for you.

Hi easypaisas! I have been teaching in a university for a very long time now. I have encountered a lot of students who had to work to afford to go to school. They also had to work to augment family income. Some of them were able to make it. I mean, despite time spent working, they were able to graduate. Others, eventually, had to choose whether to continue working or going to school. I believe that it is a matter of time management and of course, some understanding on the part of the school.

I found it helped. I went my first year without one, and as soon as I got one, my grades went up. It helped to have something else to focus on sometimes, and vary up my life. I didn't stress as much about work, because I didn't have time. I learned to manage time better quickly, and that was reflected in better grades.

It seems dear that you are than one of those people who learns very quickly. Something that I might have forgot to mention in the beginning is that Some times Job improves the performance of a student. As if he is a good learner the job makes him a responsible person and mostly the maturity comes a bit early in such cases that is a good thing for there Practical Life.

I agree with lot of friends who expressed their views , i have been one of that students who worked along with the study during my university days , for me it was mandatory with the situation at hand .. I must confess that it take a lot out of you mentally , physically and test every aspect of time , money and emotions management ..you have to balance work and studies and that is quite difficult. i would agree in totality that it affects the studies but i enjoyed the challenge cheers ... vish

I worked almost full time while I was in school and it definitely made it harder to get good grades in some of my subjects. In my core classes, I was still fine, but in the other courses I had to take for my degree, I just couldn't study enough. But I survived.

I admire anyone who is studying while holding down a job! My brother in law worked fulltime while getting a university degree and he will be the first to tell you how difficult it was especially when your job requires extra hours. I tried working a couple of days a week, taking care of my home and child and studying part time and I went through hell attempting to juggle everything! So to answer your question, yes working does affect your studies for sure but unfortunately many of us don’t have a choice...

i think having a part time job while studying would definitely affect one's studies since time would be divided. however, this is not to discourage those who want to have a job while still studying. i believe that having high grades isn't everything as long as one tries one's best and if earning a little money and a lot of discipline with one's time and productivity by having a job while studying is the cause for the not so high (but not failing grades) i say that is worth more than a million plus in the advantage when it comes to handling stress and handling one's time once the students starts a job professionally someday .

Yes it does effect your studies. A student who has a job has lets time to study and to do term papers. There is just not enough hours in a day for a student to do both working at a job and trying to get all their work for school done so what the student does not get enough of is sleep which then sometimes effect their grades.

It depends on the student himself/herself. If he/she think that he/she can manage both studies and working at the same time, I think it is better for them to do that because at least they have some sort of working experience before applying for a real job after graduation. If the jobs have some similarity with the course that they are learning, then they are actually learning something in more practical way, that can boost their performance in understand the subject more thoroughly. However, for some students, this can bring bad effect to their exam's performance. They don't have enough time to study with their colleague. They don't have the time to chat with their lecturer to learn what they don't know. Therefore it is advisable for them to quit their job and focus and study for a flying color result in the examination.

Dear Easypaisa this time I donot agree to you. You are saying that job related to your studies is helpful. But in my view first of all it is almost impossible to get a job related to professional studies during studies. As there are very less professional part time jobs and students can't afford to do full time jobs and apart from that the burdon of work and financial matters will always stay on the head of the students. So I think it will hardly proof to be helpful in the future practical life in so many cases.

yes. job during studies do effect the studies if the job is full time, but if the job is part time then i think it does not effect your studies. In part time, we have much time to study.

i worked during high school from as soon as i could because my mum didnt have much money and to do things i wanted such as buy new clothes and play sport, i had to pay for it myself. i am about to start university and i am worried about money. here in australia, the actual course fees you can pay when you finish your degree - kind of like an interest free loan which is awesome. they dont make you start paying it back until you are earning a certain amount. the thing i am worried about are college fees. college here is where you live while you are at uni and includes 3 meals a day, power, internet and basic living necessities. its expensive though. i probably wont be able to work during it though as i am studying medicine and it is a demanding course. i get a welfare type payment from the government which might just cover my college fees but what happens when i miss a meal due to classes? need personal items or clothes? i am trying to earn as much money as possible now in the break between high school and uni - taking on a full time job and also doing odd jobs for people such as lawnmowing, babysitting and household chores.

I think we humans are capable of doing anything what we decide to do and have a will to do. The only mistakes we make while juggling jobs and studies is that we fail to organize and manage both roles. Proper time management is required and discipline is essential. I don't think studies and jobs can have any effect on each other, instead they both help each other.

Yes, definitely. I have a full time job before while studying at the same time. It was a hard situation for me because my work was nightshift. Im working in a 24 hours fastfood chain in a very busy city. I feel the need to work because both my brother and sister graduated in their courses at their own expense. So Im feelin shame of asking my parents to support my studies eventhough my father got a job but I know we are still not financially stable. I had a very hectic schedule to my classes and my work. Sometimes due to the place of work which is very far from home and school, I cannot avoid the traffic that create in a long highway that resulted to my tardiness because I need to ride two times in a day before I reach in my workplace and I learn punctuality the hard way. But the very difficult time was during examination I do not have enough time to study my lesson and add up to that I cannot focus to study because tired from work and lack of sleep. So it really affect my studies.

hi easypaisas, When I was still in college I have a friend who worked for a food chain store as a service crew. She spent like 4 to 6 hours of work a day and then after that, she'll go to school. To be honest, she always comes late and often fail most of our quizzes and exams. But at that time, she's work to help her family and support her education. She's actually smart but due to her work she was not able to prioritize her studies. Good thing, even having some low grades she managed to finish college, and now working full-time in a car company. Yes, you are right! The possibility of getting low grades or failing grades when working while studying are relatively high. Those who were able to manage their time are very lucky. happy lotting!

It does affect my studies. I was a working student from second year till I graduated in college. I have to squeeze mt my for work and studies. Sometimes I felt like giving up working and focus on my studies. But that would not be possible. There are lots of school projects which needed extra time to finish and mostly I ended up talking to my teachers to have my time extended since I'm working. Most of them listens to my plea but there are those that won't. My grades are not that high but I knew that if I focus on studies alone, that would improve and have a better grades. The good thing for me is that I didn't find it hard to look for a better job when I graduated since I already have an edge to my fellow job seeker and often companies hire those new graduates which are striving to be a working student.

Yes, it effects. While I've studied I have worked for 6 months in a supermarket. I have worked as a seller of foods- like salads, salami, meat and other "fresh" foods. I had to work 8 hours a day, 5 days in the week. My rest days were Tuesday and Wednesday, so I could go to the university to listen to the lectures. But it was very hard for me, because some of the teachers have wanted, the students to visit all of the lectures, not just some of them. I also had problems with the exams, because I couldn't find all the materials I've needed, because I haven't wrote everything from the lecture, because of my absence. So it was really hard for me to combine the job with the studies. I also haven't slept enough, because after work I supposed to go to the university, after that I had to write my works, and there was a little while for sleep. So it tooks effect on my health, too. But i didn't quit, because of that, I quit because I find myself a better job.
