I have found that volunteering can be a life changing experience. When I entered college, I became a volleyball coach at a local YMCA and coached the same girls for three years. Not only did I get to change those girls' lives, but they changed mine. I worked a job and went to school, but I never felt more satisfied about doing work than I did when I volunteered. Once I get situated, I would love to coach again. It only takes up a few hours of my week, but it is such a great experience that I wouldn't change for the world. What types of volunteer work have you done? What have you taken away from it? I would love to hear your stories!

Hi Torrs13, I do volunteer work every other weekend at our local animal shelter, I know it is not the same as the work you do but I am an animal person In a way I do help others by finding the right pet for their family I guess. I think volunteering can be very rewarding work on so many levels. Keep up the good work

I love animals! It always breaks my heart to see the ASPCA commercials. I'm so glad that you are dedicating your time to helping animals get adopted. Sounds like it is a very rewarding experience for you.

Yes some of the cases can be heartbreaking. All my pets have came from a shelter. Sometimes I wish I could adopt them all if I could but I do make sure they go to good loving families. The work is very rewarding as is yours

Sadly I haven't down any volunteer work before, but in this April I managed to do something useful for the society! I called together about 20 classmates to collected used colthes, living materials and stationerty for those people in poor areas. This actiivity lasted 3 days and we collected more than 2000 pieces of clothes and 500 books and so on. Although it could not help a lot, but I was very proud of myself because at least I have done a tiny piece of good. We are pretty tired those days but all of us were energetic and full of passion. What a wonderful memmory!

Volunteering shows that we care about others. And you are right, we give but we get so much back. I like to help people that are discouraged, depressed, or that just need a friend. I'm a good listener and have acquired a lot of knowledge on how to improve our quality of life, both physical and spiritual.
