Hi friends. I wonder when you rate others answers did you rate the people who don't know English well, but tries to make the best of himself ? Do we irritate you when some of us allow misspellings and when we use wrong words when we want to say something? I guess even on this discussion I made some mistakes

hm, i never rate a negative rate for a people. maybe because i realize that English for many mylot member is not mother tongue. many of us is coming from third party and had a local language. so Mylot is a suitable place for many of us to make our english is better and better every day. like me,because english is not my mother tongue.i think we give punishment for somebody els who want to learn their english if we give a negative comment or negative rate. i think we maybe can tell their fault or spelling mistake by PM (maybe it doesnt allowed mylot FAQ if iam not wrong).

hi kompitapits no I rate everyone positive as I feel they all deserve a little boost , I sure do not get irritated by newbies who use English as a second language because I think you all are doing your very best and as you continue posting you will get better and better.you probably do a better job than I would trying to learn your language. I think our English language is one of the hardest for newcomers to learn to be honest with you so more power to you. keep up the good wor k.

Hi KompitaPita! I have great admiration for those Lotters who come here and use English to express their thoughts here I would never ever neg rate them fro trying so hard! I certainly would not go and try and participate in a forum that was not in one of the tw languages I use. I try and spur them on and if they make spelling mistakes occasionally it is probably less often than some of those with English as they only langage. Three cheers for them for having a go!

Hi MysDiana Thank you and I am happy to read that! You are saying that you would not go and try and participate in a forum that was not in one of your languages you use, but never say 'never' dear...

Hi, KompitaPita. No, I don't rate people that are not perfect in their writing skills. I don't get irritated, I just will read through the response. I rate people on what kind of discussion that they create. I also rate their discussion based on their content and quality.

Hi Cream. Nice to read that you think like that. Quality and content is much important than some spelling mistakes and it's good that you don't care if someone is making mistakes while posting.

its not the words that count but what it implies. as for geeks looking for the perfect script, why don't they take some shakespeare and shelly instead of wasting their precious time here.. oh, as a matter of fact , its been some time since i started a thread , so why don't i get right to it.. happy mylotting..:)

well.. if you really wanna look good , you would have to chose your friends carefully since you run a high chance of getting rated by them than other mylotters.. so if they are the kind that wouldn't forgive silly mistakes then you'd have some hard time getting your perks up.. enjoy mylotting..

Yes, I know. But I really hope that my friends will get mad because of my spelling mistakes and will rate me negative. Good new is that everyone who responded to my discussion is saying that the spelling mistakes are not important.

I didn't understand your last sentence, guess why! And yeah - if someone hate to read discussions or answers with misspellings better to take a book... But here at My Lot we are all over the world... Indians,Bulgarian, Spanish etc ... and a lot of us don't know English good, but we wanna be a part of My Lot.

hi kompitapita^^;; i do rate positively those whose responses really answer and related to the topic. i don't mind much their English and spellings because i know they really tried their best. i just feel annoyed sometimes on those who have known to spell better but makes shortcuts like when they are sending sms/text message. we also have different language so let's try to use English properly so we can understand each other better. don't worry much about your English, as long as we can understand the main point then it's not a big deal

go away misterwit... don't make me more confused as i'm already confused and was already confuse and those confusing words i used make everybody confused sorry kompi,ok let me rephrase, "everyone should try to use English properly and don't intentionally shorten words like those of text messaging" and for the spelling mistakes, there are always free online dictionaries they can try to use

Did you ever use a online translator? It's ok when you need a word to translate, but when you want to forming sentences ... the fun starts here. Often the translator give me another word and not that word that I need.

I seldom rate people here and I guess I’ve rated only three or four discussions negative coz their language and content was offensive, to put it mildly. My views were justified when all those discussions were later deleted by mylot for violating discussion guidelines. There are many of us here who are not well conversant in English as that is not our mother tongue…explaining yourself clearly should be the only criteria. And spelling mistakes are made by everybody…even by those whose mother tongue is English, so that is not an issue with me.

Well, guys ... for me is enough that what I have read here, in this discussion. It seems that people don't care when they are reading posts with some spelling and grammatical mistakes and they care only what we are trying to say and they prefer to understand the meaning of the sentences.

I agree and disagree. I agree when you say that spelling mistakes are made by everybody, even by those whose mother tongue is English and I disagree when you say that you are not well conversant in English. Offensive language contents should be deleted by the moderators asap. Only negative rating won't help. We must feel a responsibility here to help each other, show to each other and share with each other the right path of living, and of course we make lots of friends this way. Earning, as far as I think, is not considered the sole purpose of myLot, by most of us. Take care... God bless you...

Congratulations KompitaPita. You have done something I would never have the patience to do. You have learned another language besides your own and you have enough confidence to use it here. I think you have a good grasp of English and express yourself well. This is NOT an English test! Most of us English speaking members admire people like you. I will admit it is sometimes difficult to understand the real meaning of what some say, but I still give them a + rating if I think they have done their best and have addressed the discussion. Keep up the good work!

I never rate negative, I will rate positive if I believe there is a good discussion but I only reply to discussions I think are good. I am English and I still have misspellings, many people on here whos native language is not English have better spelling and grammer than me. I missed 1 year of school as I broke my leg real bad and had to have operations and things so that is why my spelling went right downhill! I will never rate somebody negativly if they are not very good at spelling or getting themselves across its all a learning curve and with our help and support they will be speaking and writing perfect English!

That sounds good. Don't you think that sometimes native English can help other people /who are not native English/ to learn something? Sometimes I am confused when I want to say something, but I don't know the right words to say it. I use online translator to help to translate some of the words, but the big fun is when I am not sure that word who translator gives to me is really right word. And sometimes you wanna say something but you may say another word which means can be different

I try to help but in the guidelines here it states something along the lines of do not tell people about spelling errors well thats not what it said but thats how I interpretted it! The English language is so hard there are so many words which have different meanings! I do wish I could help people a bit more but I dont want to break the guidelines or sound like a know-it-all

Getbiswa I think Jensie is talking about 'negative ratings' I think Jensie means that never give negative rates just because someone is making spelling or grammatical mistakes. That is what I think.

Dear Jensie, I think you should rate them, even if you don't think your english is not very good. These are friendly discussions, mere sharing of feelings and ideas. This is not some grammar or spelling contest. If you get the point a person is trying to make and if you like his comment, then why shouldn't you rate??? You should also consider leaving some responses of your own. I don't overrate you when I say that your english is more than just fine. Its lucid and you have a straight forward way of expressing yourself. What else do you think you need? Go ahead start rating now. But please don't give me any negative ratings for all that I've said... :) take care... God bless you..

Hello everyone, Talking about misspellings, why don't you people use some advanced browsers that have spelling correction capabilities? I am using mozilla firefox now. It marks the entire word whenever I attempt to make mistakes with its spelling. Its helpful. I think people should ignore misspellings to some extent, especially when the person is trying his best to make his point. I agree, sometimes it becomes really irritating when due to misspellings the content becomes nearly unreadable. But I've never found anything like that on myLot. May be I am little bit choosy about reading. Take care.... God bless you all...

Look... it's not about only spelling mistakes. Sometime we make another mistakes... I am not sure how you call them on English - I think it's 'grammatical' . I just try to explain that when I am not sure if I must use 'walk' , 'walking' or 'walked' an online translator just can't help me...

Well, I rate them depending on how interesting their topic is, even though how few their content is as long as it's a very interesting one. I'm not irritated to wrong grammars or misspelled words because I myself have a lot of errors. I just want the discussion easy to understand and doesn't have that too much words.

I rate those that post quality, and yes I do rate the ones whose Englis isn't all that good, as I know they are doing the best they can under the circumstances, and since English isn't their native language, they are learning it by being in here. I don't rate them negative unless there are referral links in the discussion. If they are going to take the time to post a response, then I am going to take the time to rate them. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

No, in fact I never rated negative. If I find a discussions or responses that I don't like, I'd just leave them unrated. I appreciate every effort in making every post, and I do not care about grammar or spelling, as long as it is understandable. I'm not an English native speaker, I know how hard it is sometimes to expressing our thoughts in foreign language.

I rate people indiscriminately. I rate everyone or every discussion and response i ran into. Well sometimes wrong spelling is not that good for the eyes but as long as I can understand it I respond and if there is something I've misunderstood I try to clear things upon my response. I usually state what is on my mind yet I try to be careful not to hurt others when I have to say something that can really cause a wild debate. We are not perfect, we all commit mistakes but that doesn't mean we should stop learning and correct ourselves before others notice.

Hi KompitaPita... I sometimes also took right grammar and spelling in consideration in rating the person's response. But there were really times (which is really most of the time) that when the response is really sensible and a quality one, I would really rate it good and even mark it best response despite of it's grammar and spelling.
