I have had many memorable moments in my life. But I think what sticks out is my departure from Saigon two weeks before its fall and having to leave my colleauges and Vientmas friend behind. It was most excruciating when I was at home and watching the actual fall of the city and the agonizing faces of the Vietnamese people at the gates of the American Embassy trying to get out. My boss and his wife were on the penultimate helicopter that took off from the room of the Embassy. I didn't know it when the takeoff was shown on TV. They told me about later.
