Travel Sites

Do many of you out there use travel sites for vacations being a cruise or land package. We are looking to either cruise to the caribbean or plant our butts on a nice warm beach. Some of my friends strictly use travel agents for their vacation travel, and would never use a travel site. Which of these do you prefer?
