I'm so pissed right now. My brother just found out that his entire Magic: The Gathering collection was stolen. He left it in his car and someone came in and took it all, except for a box of land cards. They took 2 backpack full and 4 boxes of cards. The cards are probably worth somewhere around three thousand dollars since he had a lot of rare and hard to find cards. My siblings and I have been collecting those cards for over ten years now. My brother thinks that it is someone he might know because they didn't take anything else. There were other things of value in the car but it was left untouched.

I feel sorry for you and your brothers. I been playing Magic the Gathering for over 10 years, due to the high value of the rare cards, never left your binder or boxes with cards out of your sight when go to the card shop for casual play or joining tournament. I have a friend which exactly have the same scenari like yours, cards been stole from car, which causing he end up quit Magic. Just be careful next time.

Yeah, it was a real downer. We did get a trace of some of the cards because they popped up on craigslist a few days later but we didn't have enough to get the person. The good thing is that this hasn't really caused my brothers to quit playing the game though.

This happened to an old boyfriend of mine recently.... He had several moxes, 20 Mox Diamonds, a ton of dual lands.. Most of the P9. Like myself, he had been playing and collecting since 1994, and he still had some of the cards that I had given him in 1998. I had about $200 worth of cards in the trunk of my car when it was stolen. Now, I don't have much of anything valuable in my MtG collection. As you mentioned, it does sound like it was someone that knew your brother that stole them, or at least someone who was aquainted with him or their value.

It was probably like you said someone you knew. Most theives would go for something a bit more valuable then cards. You could report it stolen, but its doubtful the police will do much. But giving their estmated value it may be well worth the effort. Good luck though.

My brother has already done that. He's also called up the game shops where he usually goes to play Magic. The Magic playing community in this town isn't large so they'll be on the lookout for that. If someone tries to sell off a vast amount of cards around here we'll hear about it. And the cops just showed up here as I am typing this response.
