I have been in the medical transcription field since year 2000. I feel it is a very good online income generating field as there is good flexibility, good earnings, no age limit and good for housewifes who would like to stay home and work as well as for the retired people who would like to be independent ever after their retirement.

The basic course involves around 6 months of training in which typing skill, comprehension skill, english grammar skills and medical terminologies are taught. Once you are done with it, there are lots of companies who provide work from home opportunities and 80% of these companies are real ones who pays. Many companies require 1-2 years experience to start with. Check the blog mentioned in my profile, which may help you better understand the whole concept. The best part is, once you got the training and required experience, then you are your own master, can take work from companies and fix your own timings and there is age limitation nor working hour limitation, nor recession effects it.

This field requires to have medical knowledge for which lots of online sites are available which will provide this training. In India there are lots of companies which are providing inhouse training then absorbing them in to their company. I am working in India and in India it is at boom. Lots of work available as well as lots of opportunities. For international members, the opportunities are available, but at present I don't have much fund of knowledge with regard to that.

Medical transcriptionists work for US hospitals where insurance companies need record of the bills spent on the patient healthcare. So the US hospital doctors dictates the whole medical condition of a patient and the treatment required or treatment rendered. Thus the medical transcriptionists just listens to those dictations and transcribes them in a word document which will be used by the doctors as record for future reference as well as used by the hospitals to claim the bill amount of the patients from the insurance companies.
