They fly to India, Thailand, or other countries to be treated by medical personnel trained in the US & Australia. The foreign hospitals are now offering suites for the patients in order to gain fame in this area. They also charge greatly reduced rates over US hospitals offering a savings of well over 50 percent. The lady in this article paid $12,000 for the entire trip compared to $90,000 if treated here in the US. The average person in most of these countries do not have the money for these operations so the hospital increases its profit greatly. Those needing the operations win because they cannot get the same services without losing their home. It sounds interesting, but the thought of traveling away from my family & friends in order to have an important operation makes me nervous!!! Have you ever used the services of medical tourism??? Or would you consider using it???

Here in Latvia is popular medical tourism from Scandinavia, Israel, because our medicine is in very good level and we have good prices for foreigners.

WELCOME TO MYLOT!!! Better late than never!!! It's a completely new idea here. It may well be one that works wonderfully, but it still makes me nervous.

The whole idea makes me kind of nervous also. But, if I really needed the surgery, I will probably do it. It is a shame we even need to have this kind of discussion, isn't it? Our health care system is already in shambles and sinking lower at a fast and furious pace. I feel for those in this stressful situation, I really do. But, what can they do? If you need the operation, you need the operation, and this medical tourism is at the very least, something well worth looking in to.

I was under the impression that Canada has excellent health care. I don't think we'll be seeing Universal Health Care any time soon...although I hope I'm terribly WRONG!!! Any operation would make me nervous. However, the thought of traveling thousands of miles without family & friends nearby scares the crap out of me!!!

It would be scary indeed to face this kind of decision. I feel for those put into a position where they cannot get the same fair value treatment in their own country. But, if my choice was travelling abroad or losing my home (or my health), I guess I would be willing to make the journey too. If you really need the surgery, and you cannot afford it, what alternatives are you left with?
