I only did it once and I doubt I ever will again! I am curious to know how many people do this and do your kids help. Not to mention if it is just suger cookies or different kinds of cookies.

I do! But I bake more than cookies. I don't have children yet to help [I'm only 18!] but someday I'll pass down the tradition, just as my grandma and mom passed down to me. I make sugar cookies, yes, but also pumpkin cookies [they taste better than they sound], peanut butter cookies, no bake cookies [always a family favorite], and many other non-cookie treats. It just seems that when Christmas rolls around, my baking mood kicks in constantly until after Christmas. I swear I make something new every day. Luckily, to get rid of all those sweets, I make sweet bags for my friends and family, so they each get a taste of everything I bake.

my mother always did and we helped decorate them - but since I don't have kids it never has been an issue

We do! But we just buy those ready to bake Pillsbury sugar cookies. The ones where you just pop it in the oven and bakes for a few minutes. The kids don't seem to mind. Of course they don't know any better. My mom used to bake cakes and cookies for the holidays. Part of the tradition. But now that she is so far away, I don't get to experience it with my kids.

I make sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies and if I have time I will make chocolate chip cookies. I also make bar cookies which consist of Cheesecake bars and Hello Dolly cookies. I love baking this time of the year. I am hoping to get it all done this weekend.

I make sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, snow ball cookies and oatmeal rasin cookies. In addition I also make ginger bread, fudge and truffles. I love this time of the year. I give away a lot of home made gift baskets with these goodies.
