Gordon and Fernando for 2010. Are they better?

Philippines

These two officials finally filed their COCs. Gordon and Fernando are running for the presidency and vice respectively. Could their tandem keep up to par to other candidates in terms of popularity? Maybe not, but capability wise they have much more to offer compared to others. Its interesting that we have more choices to chose from. I just hope who ever is elected will turn the Philippines around. What do you think about their tandem, do they have a chance?

I am actually voting and supporting Richard Gordon for president because I was super impressed with his answers during the presidential forum. When he was featured in Profiles, I can really say that he really did turn Subic around and in addition he also made the Philippine Red Cross a very respectable organization. Thus, his leadership abilities are undoubtedly one of the best among the presidential candidates.

hello lealuvy2, You have my HIGHEST respect on that. i can't believe that i am seeing some one who has a clear vision on our country and he really is daring for the real issues. he's also being Realist and has strong and straight INITIATIVES. his contribution to Olongapo and Red cross speaks of itself, why those people don't see that. these people who are top in the survey didn't come close to their asnwers to the questions asked to them.

While I do not trust the skills of Gordon, I do believe that Fernando is qualified for either position. A person who has such strong will should definitely be given a chance to try to discipline and help shape up our rotten society. What hurts both their campaigns is the lack of a major backing from a political party that can very well be a telling factor in places where they are less known.

Fernando is a disciplinarian that is why many hates him. most people in metro manila hates him for being so strict that sometimes, what he does looked abusive. But as you said we do really need a strong willed person. As for Gordon, you may have your reason to doubt or not to trust his skills, but he has done more and proven more of his capability compared to other candidates.

Compared to other candidates, yes, Gordon has done more than some others have. I'd have to agree with that. I haven't heard a precise platform from him though, which makes me doubt him and his presidential campaign. I'm tired of hearing the same old "stop corruption" or "feed the poor". It would need much more than that to get my vote. We need concrete solutions, not just slogans. If he lays down a specific blueprint then I will consider him legit.

Well it is their right to run as they wish. Are they better? I have high respects for these two people. They seem to have plenty of supporters as well because they have created their name in the name of public service. Gordon being the Mayor of Olongapo, SBMA Chairman and a senator. I do believe he has also contributed a lot in Red Cross too which made him very popular during the kidnapping crisis of Red Cross volunteers months ago. He has been plainly simple and not very showy when in the public and he is indeed a good leader. On the other hand Fernando is very well known MMDA Chairman and has made improvements in his time as Mayor of Marikina. I think one of the cities that are very orderly was Marikina under his leadership. They seem to be a potential candidates but somehow I feel that their tandem would not be as strong as other contenders are. They may ran independent but I do not know how far they can reach the Philippines in their campaign. I think running for presidency needs a lot of network to be able to reach the far reaches of the country. I remember that was the case of under Roco who ran as independent before he was able to reach far but because he was not well equip in terms of networks he was not able to really campaign thoroughly in his time which during the polls came out rather poorly not because he was not qualified but he failed to reach as many voters as he can.

You're right, their problem will be indeed their lack of capability to campaign through out the country. They do not have enough machineries unlike candidates backed by a party. But I think they are better equipped to ran the country.

They are better equipped maybe but for how long will they be able to hold on if they do not have the machinery of a party with them. let us presume they won in the election do you think they could easily move on with their agenda's if the congress won't support them? I really think that parties are what bounds a government to function properly. I have the same experience with Roco before when he campaigned independent and even created his own party to run for presidency. Although he was able to move around the country but his reach is really hard in far flung countryside and local government units are not that allied with his party then you won't get any support when you do your campaign sorties there. In the end, it was still who has the best network of support that still won and not who was better equipped.

Yes, I've also seen them on TV declaring their candidacies. At first I can't help but laughed because it was really a shocking declaration, I never heard them before talking about their supposed tandem and Senator Gordon has never planned to aspire higher position and beside Fernando was already fixed his mind to run as President, so their declaration was a bit appalling. But later on I realized that they have rights to run anyway, if the ordinary people with no background in politics file candidacy for president, which reached to 80 as of yesterday-a very ridiculous situation in the country's national election, why can't they when they have experience in public service already.

Yeah, its really ridiculous to have such number running for president. But that's how the Philippine democracy works. Anybody can run, as long as they are in their legal age, its the only requirement needed to be satisfied. Anyway, comelec will soon disqualify some of them, the nuisance candidates.

So Gordon for president and Fernando for vice president or is it the other way around. I think it is a well respected tandem, its legitimate in my opinion. Those two are qualified and have the credentials to back it all up. Both are Lakas originals and has been loyal to the party and both are Lakas-Kampi rejects. Now i know who FVR will support or maybe he will jump to NoyNoy-Mar. Lets hope for the best whoever is elected, what i like about this coming elections is we can see a much faster counting. We could have a new president in a week after the election day...hope so.

Actually, most of the candidates are qualified. It should be a matter who have the best platform and and have the strategy to implement it. Indeed the counting would be faster. Hope cheaters would not be fast enough to taint the election results.

Just the perfect pair for me. These two are leaders that i was waiting to run. I can even say that these guys are transformers. They may not be that popular in terms of surveys but if we really take a closer look, we don't need a popular president. We need a real leader. I always consider the Philippines as a great country without a great leader. What we need is someone who has the political will to make decisions on his own. I think these guys can do better than the other candidates. Cheers!

These two have great experience in leadership. They did very good in their constituents. They have enough to lead the country. Gordon's achievement can be seen on what subic had become in recent years. The same can be said for Fernando on Marikina. They also acted very well during the calamities we had. What they are lacking right now is the popularity that other candidates are enjoying right now.

hello strawberry, last year i thought he was just another candidate and tandem with bayani is another group trying to race for presidency. but my perception for him really changed when he answered question in the Presidential Debates! and those people in top of the surveys wasn't even of their answers from the questions being asked. and knowing Bayani is an engineer he would know if the contracts on infrastructure is real or fake. They got my Vote! that's for sure.
