You're an Idiot!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... bet you thought I was being nasty but no.. classic case of misleading headlines really. Usually the headline of a discussion should tell you what the discussion is all about but several times I've been duped by what I call funny misleading headlines which turn out to be quiet interesting. Like one of my good friends started a discussion about "hanging" and I thought it was about hanging SOBs that have broken the law only to find out after reading it, it was about hanging clothes on the line! I got caught in the balls there.. Have you responded to a discussion because you were mislead by the headline?

It's amazing how people will respond to a discussion, and yes, I can always tell when a person has just read the title of my discussion and maybe the first line or two but not the whole thing. On a lark I once did a discussion.."OMG..I Think I'm Pregnant With An Alien"---I went through this whole scenario of how I was feeling..etc...then skipped way down and did a "gotcha"--most of my friends got a chuckle out of it as they HAD read all the way through, but sure enough there was one responder who took my post seriously and that I should contact the authorities to be tested.

I actually got a few responses to that hanging discussion that were responding to the title only.

I responded to that discussion as well. When I first read the headline I had the same thought as you. Good thing I read the rest of the discussion or I would have been way off in my response! LOL I've given some misleading headlines on here before as well. It makes it more interesting, don't you think? Plus, it shows who really goes through the trouble of reading the entire discussion as well as those who only respond to the headline itself. Hmm, it makes me wonder if some people will call you an idiot because they didn't bother to read the entire discussion? Happy mylotting!

Hi jelly, I used to get caught out the other way, a cleverly worded title not drawing attention to the severed heads discussion (a real one not a pe one) brought lotis of answers about ornaments. A lot of it has to do with the title.

In many responded discussions on myLot, the first, usually I read is title discussion. If the title interesting, I will respond but if not, I will passed that's discussion. In this case you have fooled me .... lol ... Initially I will provide feedback in terms of giving advice but after reading description of your discussion, I can only laugh ...

Yes, this is a novel approach. So you use catch phrases. Well, this kind of topic sometimes leave the respondent in a lurch of what to write. So you will get a diffused discussion with not much in focus.
