When is the last time you went to the dentist?

We all know how important dental health is to other aspects of our health. However, regular dental checkups seem to be something that many people lack. In fact, out of everyone I know, I have one friend that sticks to regular checkups. I myself used to go twice a year until I graduated college, got married, and moved out of state. Now it has been over a year. So when is the last time you went to the dentist? Was it a good experience? Besides a lack of money or insurance, it seems that another reason people do not like to go is because of fear or a previously bad experience.

The last time I went to the dentist was last June. I went there just for check up and have my teeth cleansed. It was a bad experience because the dentist is not really our family dentist. I think she is still new in dentistry. She made my gums bleed so much which was unusual because it never happened to me before. Then after the cleaning, she did not give me any fluoride to gargle which sucked so much. After that, I promised myself not to have another check up with her ever again.

Yikes! I wouldn't see her again either! A little bleeding is normal, but not like that.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled two years ago. Believe it or not, it the procedure and the pain afterwards was not too bad; the anesthesia was what made me sick for a few days! I'm glad I got it over with before they grew in all the way.

The last time I went to the dentist would be early this year. It was so long ago that I do not even remember the exact month. All I know was I was still in my previous work so it should have been the first few months on this year. I hardly go to the dentist thus I have to avoid eating food that will make my teeth bad. Good thing over the years I have stopped eating candies thus making my teeth last longer.

That's a good point. When I was a kid, I got cavities all of the time because I had candy and drank soda all of the time. When I was 13 I stopped drinking soda and I rarely eat candy and have not had a cavity since.

The last time I went to the dentist was about 5-6 months ago. It was for a regular check up and a cleaning. I know the dentist can cause pain and is hence a visit that is often put off, but the dentist that I have been going for years is very kind and has a lot of empathy, he apologizes frankly if he causes me any pain and tries his darndest to not cause any at all. Going to the dentist is very essential, just recently is has been shown that poor dental health can be detrimental to your cardio vascular system. Now, I don't know how but its proven. It can also help you prevent symptomless conditions like gum recession and gingivitis.

Yes, I have heard that it can affect your heart by plaque being transferred from your teeth through your bloodstream. I think people do not think about it as much as other potential health problems because it is a slow process. I am glad you have a good dentist; some can be too rough.

Hi daydayup1, going to a dentist is important to get regular cleanings because they can get plaque that you may miss with a toothbrush or floss. Plaque build-up can actually get into your bloodstream is left untreated and cause other health problems. Also, a dentist can detect other potential problems in your mouth so that you can treat them before they get worse.

Oh my God I hate hate hate hate HATE the dentist! It freaks me out!!!! How they scrape your teeth and gums and the sounds of the instruments they use.... EEEEW! This is gonna sound bad, I know, but the last time I went to the dentist was when I got my braces off and that was 5 years ago! My teeth are actually in REALLY good condition. I brush in the morning and at night (and after I have popcorn cause I hate it when the kernels get stuck between my teeth), I always floss before brushing and I always use mouthwash after brushing. Even though I do all that I'm sure I could benefit from a visit to the denist, but you'd literally have to DRAG me into the office!!!

I also brush and floss regularly. I try to brush after every meal and always after having coffee or tea. Not only is it good for my teeth, it just feels better. I agree that the dental instruments sound creepy...

it is just that so many cannot afford to go to the dentist. we dont have insurance plus hubby is not working and we need the money for other things such as food. fortunately for me, i qualify for free dental work from the city so i just went about a month ago and have to go back in the new year.

Last month! I go every 6 months for my bi-annual cleaning. And that is when they check to see if I need any work done.. If I do then I schedule an appt to have that done.. I love my dentist.. I have been going to the same dentist for 30 years- I would never change dentists.. Now he is grooming is daughter to take over the practice as she has now become a partner and they can see more people too.

I hate going to the dentist as well, and as a result over the years of not doing this, my teeth are in poor shape. I actually just went yesterday, I am bound and determined to get healthy again. Hope if you havent been recently, you'll go...better late than never!

The last time I went to the dentist was about 5 years ago. I know I should go more often to at least have my teeth clean but it is one things that I usually put off. With all our other expenses it is hard to fine money to go to the dentist.

hi Kristeen^^;; i went to the dentist last Tuesday. i had ofcourse all the cleaning and it's also been one year since i had the last one. but i have to go back tommorrow, Thursday, to replace my jacket crown and have another root canal. it'll be tough and costly as it is not part of any regular insurance in my country but i have to do it and save my teeth. my gums and teeth are a bit sensitive so i have to go regularly but seems i missed it this year so i just had it now.

Hi Kristeen5! Eversince I knew how to brush my teeth, we have the same dentist I But when I was working, I can do it every month, since it is offered in our company for free. It helps me a lot, especially by saving money to pay for my own doctor. I find time going to our family dentist once every three months for cleaning and regular check ups

iT'S been more than a year =( I was scheduled for an appointment a few weeks ago, I postponed because I was so busy, even up until now. I miss having my teeth taken care of, but I really have sensitive teeth so just thinking about the dentist's clinic makes me cringe. =(

Hi, Kristeen5. The last time that I went to the dentist is in April. I had an appointment scheduled for October. But, I could not go, due to my Insurance. It is being worked on now. I will be glad when I and my husband get approved. I usually keep up with my appointments every six months for a general cleaning.

The last tome i went to a dentist was very long ago, over forty years i think and when i was in schhol.Since then i don`t recall having gone to a dentist since i have maintained my teeth quite well. Also i am not addicted to sweets and chocolates or sweets of any kind ,therefore my teeth have not decayed much since then.I am now 64 and still have strong teeth excpt for what was removed during the schholdays. The reason is that during my younger days i was a very poor eater and was also anaemic which affected my teeth to a great extent. But now things are different and i take care of my teeth and also eat healthy foods so that i do not have to visit the dentist. I hope things stay that way till i die.

I started going to the dentist when I was turning 30 years old I went for cleanings, and for other different types of work. I continued to go at least twice a year until I was 50 years old. I went the last time in NY before I left for New Mexico. Since being in New Mexico I have not gone to the dentist due to fear and money. I trusted my dentist in NY. He was the best dentist I had ever had. I do brush my teeth 2 to 3 times a day and I floss and use mouthwash everyday. Thank God I have not had any problems but I know one day I will have to find a dentist and deal with it.[

hi Kristeen5... You are right dental health is also important since sometime these may cause of some serious problem on your heart because of the bacteria on your teeth will be swallowed in and can contaminate your other internal organs. Well the last time I went to the dentist was last month. I visit the dentist every after two months and I like it since I got to bring my husband and my child with me whenever I go to the dentist so they could have a regular dental check up also.
