Mittens, I knit them, do you?

I taught myself to knit when I was 11 years old. My mother bought me a booklet that had patterns for socks, sweaters and 2-needle mittens. I have made so many pairs of those 2-needle mittens that I do not have to look at the pattern. I still have the booklet, it is now 38 years old.

My mother tried so hard to get me interested in knitting and crocheting when I was younger, but I never had the patience for it. She used to sew and make many of my clothes, and she would knit and crochet sweaters, afghans, and mittens for us. I can still remember a pair of mittens that she knitted for me when I was a kid; they were purple, believe it or not! They didn't match a thing, of course, but I insisted on purple because it was my favorite color! Isn't it funny the things that we remember?

Purple is my favorite color too! I knitted myself a pair using to strands of yarn. One was varigated and the other solid. The pattern was great. I still have those mittens too.

I found a great two needle pattern for mittens. I just finished making a pair for both my sons. I adjusted the pattern a bit and made fingerless mittens for my two girls and myself. It was so easy and fun to make. My next new thing will be socks.:)

I have knitted a little bit in the past. I usually stuck to afghans, since I could use the bigger needles! My attention span is not very long nowadays though...I have to see some results really quickly or I get bored! LOL!

I used to do a lot of knitting ..mainly kiddies clothes as I haven't a lot of patience and want to get the job done as soon as I start hehe .. Scarves are good to knit while watching TV ... and squares to with left over wool to make up cheap blankets or throws .. Can I ask, I keep seeing 'Afghans' in peoples discussions .. what are they please ??

I can knit, though not very well at all and I really prefer to crochet although I haven't done that in quite a while. I had a few patterns for crochetted mittens that I also could make by heart as I'd made so many of them. It never fails, when winter comes we must go through about 40 pairs each year, lol. My kids are terrible for leaving just one mitten behind somewhere.

I have never even tried it before. I'm sure I could learn to do it if I had someone to teach me.

I used to knit but now I do more crocheting. When I was a child mittens were a favorite Christmas gift I had them in all colors and all knitted by family members.

When I was in high school I took a knitting class. I made mittens and scarves. I have not knitted since. I do crocheting now. I make afghans and sell them.

How cool! My Grandmother taught me to knit and crochet when I was young. I tried knitting mittens and it was a disaster so I crocheted mittens and they came out alright. The only thing that I have been able to knit is blankets so my hat's off to you for being able to knit so well. Maybe if I got a book it would help, LOL.

I did crochet mittens without using a pattern. I created my own. The problem was that I tend to crochet a bit loosely and the mittens weren't all that warm.

I learned to crochet when I was a kid, and my mother did a lot of knitting, but I never got into knitting, myself. I don't do much needlework anymore. I've taken up other hobbies.

Elusive, my sister showed me how to knit when I was a child. But in jr. high school I took knitting and crocheting classes. I've never knitted any mittens though but I do have some patterns and I've purchased some double pointed needles. I like crocheting more so than knitting because it's less stressful on my hands and arms.

Nope, i don't knit because it would be pointless as i'm allergic to wool so wouldn't be able to wear/use anything i made! I know you can knit with cotton, but i don't have the time to learn another new craft right now. A friend knitted me some gorgeous fingerless mitten made of cotton in my fave colours! She also did a matching scarf too.

I also taught myself to knit out of one of those little books. I knitted a pair of slippers and a scarf. I've never knitted anything else, but last year, I bought some of that new fuzzy looking yarn and wanted to knit a scarf out of it, but I couldn't remember how to do it. I've still got my old book, too, but couldn't figure it out. I am going to try again, since I discovered I'm going to be a grandma for the first time, and I want to make something for the new little one on the way.

Hand Knit Mittens - keep those hands warm in style
Knitting is the one craft that I SOOOOO have wanted to learn! I can crochet (only minimal and cant do more then a straight single and double stitch) but not even enough to make anything. I have always thought knitting looks a bit easier and less intimidating but have never known anyone who knits that could even teach me! I buy hand made knitted mittens at a local "hippie" store called Grasshopper. They have them for like $4 a pair and they are the big, bulky hand made types! I just love them and love to collect them in all sorts of funky colors and styles!

I haven't ventured into the world of mittens yet, but I promised a friend I would make some aligator ones for her son, so I will be soon! I have made a couple of arm warmers, though.

I have knit so many mittens in my years as a knitter. I liked to make the mittens with four needles, and the mitten could be used on either hand. I would knit one size, one color of mitten until I was out of that color yarn. It didn't matter if there wasn't an even number of mittens, the kids always lost some so the new ones just slid right into place.
