Why do some people not believe in God?

Some people don't believe in God. Why? There has to be some sort of a God. How could we even be here if nothing created our universe? Something had to have done this. Even science now tells us that this universe was created somehow. You know Jesus died for all of our sins and all he wants us to do is believe in him. You don't have to be a regular church goer or try to be perfect. Jesus knows you can't be perfect and that's why he died for your sins. Why not believe? If you're wrong and nothing happens after death then you're fine! But if you do believe and it is true then you will have everlasting life. Believing is a win win situation. Not believing is a possible eternity in Hell. Why take the risk? I just don't understand the reasoning here with nonbelievers.

I don't believe in God because Odin told me not to. Just to be sure I got a second opinion from Buddha. Of course Buddha also told me not to believe in Odin who I'd just talked to so now I'm all confused. Zeus just shook his head...

Science doesn't say the universe was created. We don't know how the universe came to be, and scientists are still trying to figure it out. Research the Big Bang theory if you want to know the scientific communities current understanding of how the universe as we know it came to be. Nonbelievers don't believe because they see no reason to, and we aren't swayed by Pascal's Wager (that it's a win/win if you believe). Such thinking could be applied to other religion's, too. What if you're believing in the wrong god, and it's really the god of the Koran who is the real god? What then? Wouldn't it be better to believe in all gods just to be safe? Quite frankly if I were inclined to believe in a god, it would not be one who damns you to suffering for not believing, even if you are a good person. Such a god wouldn't be worthy of my recognition.

Why? Why does there have to be a gbod? Why did there have to be one to make the earth? Why treat god like buying a lottery ticket (just in case)? Why waste energy believing? Why fight wars, kill people, oppress people, deny rights, and destroy the earth because some 2000 year old book said it would be cool? Why? Why ignore science4, rational thought, evidence, and common sense? I just don't understand the reasoning, and lack thereof, of believers.

Because science itself can't explain all that is around us.

Don't blame God for all of those wars and other bad things that have happened. It's not his fault because people have a choice. How is just believeing in something wasting energy? Do you think childeren believeing in Santa is a waste of energy? No because it teaches them a lesson. It teaches them that they need to be good people. Same thing with God. Do you think mankind would have survived this long if they didn't believe in God? I don't because I think they would have all killed each other by now and I think they would've had no morals at all.

I don't think the existance of Earth and life is concrete proof of deity. personally I don't think there was ever a time when there was nothing, because something can't come from nothing. I don't think there was a beginning, and people just think there is because they are used to things being so linear as to have a beginning and an end. but this is the universe we're talking about, and it's much much bigger than us, and how can we expect it to fit within our realms of experience. and if you can't conceive of creation without deity, then how do you then decide what religion it proves, as surely it proves equally the existance of all Gods. if the fact we are here proves your God exists, it also proves mine exist, on the same grounds. to be quite honest, I'm not going to respond to a deity that resorts to bully boy tactics. believe in me or I'll torture you forever. well, no, I'm not going to worship you then, as you're not worthy of it. you ask non Christians, what if you're wrong? I ask you, what if you're wrong? hadn't you better go round believing in all the other religions too, just in case? it's just as ridiculous as expecting people to believe in your religion "just in case" I mean I'm sure there are other religions claiming poshumous punishment of people that don't follow their religion, in which case Christians would be in the same position as non Christians would be in yours. if you believe Christianity just in case, you'd better believe all the rest of them too. cover your bases, so to speak. but not me, I'll continue in a religion where I feel a deep and sincere spiritual peace, and a relationship with the divine. surely this is better reason to follow a religion than "just in case"

well there is no evidence at all that god exists, has he been round and had coffee with you ?? he is a man made being, I am an intelligent guy and also a free thinker I have read the holy books and also talked to priests etc etc and not one priest can offer me any firm evidence that god is looking down on us. If god was in existance there would be ONE faith and one image of god, different faiths believe in different gods, the greeks had gods for all sorts of gods for the sea the land even god of war etc etc, druids thought the plants and trees was god, christians believe in one god, muslims believe in one thats totally different. So the list goes on. You 'mentioned why not believe' its not that I don't believe but untill I get evidence of his or hers existance then I can't believe in something that I can't see. It's a bit like believing in santa claus and his flying reindeer a man made fictional character. Though everybody is entitled to believe in what or who you want too, just I have never had my questions answered to convince me of god.

Many reasons why.. God doesn't show himself to us.. All we have is bible for evidence.. If someone created the universe WHO created him? Why do all suffer if he erased our sin? why people kill people? There's so many reasons why.. ^_^

"If someone created the universe WHO created him?" That's a never ending question. Who created the one WHO created him? And so it goes. Where does it end?

If somebody created God then that means somebody created the God that created God. That's not possible! Why? Because the creation had to start somewhere! If God has to be created then that means it's impossible for anything to exist. If our world has always been here then why does it seem to be young? Why are there all these crazy theories about how stuff was made? They say our universe was created by the big bang. Well what created the big bang? Then what created the thing that created the big bang? It has to start somewhere right? Something had to set off the chain of events. Think logically!

Yes I'm well aware of that. There is no proof who and what created the universe.. Bible didn't said about milky way or Saturn or something.. What I can recall is in very first chapter of the bible.. God created Earth.. Am I right? the 7 days thingie.. ^_^ This is only what I think and I'm not defending it because I believe in this.. ^_^

I think a large part of it has to do with pride. Most people don't like to admit that we were created by a being who knows all, sees all and is all powerful. That would be a big blow to their egos. Most people want to be their own gods. How sad. I agree wholeheartedly with you. How can you look around and not see that someone much bigger than me created all of this. Nothing was created by accident. Everything was meticulously designed with loving care. I always tell people that everyone has eternal life. It all depends on where you want to spend eternity. Dont mind, at first tell me why to believe god? Dont think that the universe was created by god. It was created by itself and shifted , moved all everything according to their needs.

Could be because there are so many lame "believers". That's my guess. Just recently, I had a conversation on mylott with a girl who said I needed faith in God. Then I caught another discussion in which she was sleeping around with some boy, and got pregnant, and thought maybe she should get married. Oh what faith! What character! What morals! She is even considering marriage now that she pregnant, after sleeping with her boy friend for God only knows how long. Oh please sign me up. Make me a believer too... ... a believer in what? You guys don't even follow what your "god" says, so why should I? When I meet a Christian that actually follows what 'Christ' taught, then maybe I'll consider what they have to say.

I agree with you, God created this universe..with regards to your question on Why some people do not believe in God, maybe because they haven't seen him and they probably have problems before that had seemed not be solved or unanswered prayer that is why they lack the belief..but for me, regardless if my prayers are unanswered, i still believe in God..the fact that the world is the perfect palce to live is enough proof that someone perfect had made it..happy mylotting..

The world is a perfect place to live? 70% of the planet is covered with gigantic oceans, which are so filled with all kinds of creatures that can kill us, and salt water that would make us go insane, so if we lived anywhere in there, they'd die. A massive amount of the land is giant mountains, where it's nearly impossible for us to get to the top, and even if we did, there's not enough oxygen for us to live, and no way we could make the supplies we need. On the land, there are all sorts of insects and animals that can easily kill us, through either bacteria or venom, or plain brute force, so if we tried to live anywhere in the wild, without our technology (which we have proof that we created, not any form of God) then we'd easily be killed. Then, everywhere in the world, the majority of life is %90 viruses and bacteria! Things that range from the flu, which we still have no absolute cure for, and kills thousands upon thousands of people each year, or bacteria that causes ailments like pneumonia, or hundreds upon hundreds of known directions that people die of, constantly. Are you telling me that this is a perfect world? One where we can only be around 1% of the life, and can't live anywhere without massive amounts of technology that we built ourselves? If the humans of today were places in the world of 10,000 years ago, which is just a tiny fraction of the lifespan of our planet, we would easily die. If this is a perfect world, I don't want to know what an imperfect one would be like....

Why is that if we don't believe, we are reduced to being either blamers or having serious psychological issues? Consider this please.... people who hear and see (religious or otherwise) visions, believe in things that are totally imagined, are scientifically known as PSYCHOTIC. so who is the nut? the one who hopes and prays theres a big nice man on a cushy cloud waiting for them personally to arrive, or the the one who doesn't see the sense in wasting THIS LIFE worrying about the after life? just asking.....

The human ego! They don't want to believe that there may be someone out there who is beyond their scope of awareness. And when one considers that they are following a fella who knows undoubtedly that there is God, but defies God in His glory, that puts an odd spin on it..But, I suppose, that's why they call that fella 'The Father of Lies.', which shows how many gullible fools there are in the world. And folks think they're being logical. They don't realize they're being emotionl, petty, self-centered brats, just like the fella they're following. True logic says that it makes sense to believe in God..in HELL..in Heaven. It makes far more sense to believe in a nasty place like hell and, perhaps, find out it isn't there..for you..than defy its existence and wind up with a major 'oops!' at a bad time and find oneself in a place with lousy accommodations, no exit for an awafully long time.. As for proof..there's a reason they call it faith..if someone doesn't like the reason then I'm sorry to hear that. But I do have a suggestion,,Don't die with anything flammable in your pockets.. Enjoy!

neither you nor I are more remarkable than them. and I've not conversed with them, as our communication methods are different. we are animals. like it or not, that is the truth. this is NOT an insult, just a truth. to be insulted at being compared to other types of animals is to not truly appreciate how amazing all forms of life are.

well the best anwer for that its quite simple, the reason that some people don't believe in god is that we are all free, we are all free to think the thing that we think that we do, nobody can tell us what to think, so when we live n free society there are people that believe in god,, others don't, and even others don't know what to think about that

"we are all free to think the thing that we think that we do" should be read "we are all free to think everything that we want" sorry for the mistake

I think some peoples who says that they do not believe in god are the one who basically wants to ignore and avoid the fact. They want to run from the truth and want to create unnecessary issue out of anything. it is their way to stand out of crowd to gain importance.

That is so true. The bible tells us in the begining God (heavenly) created the heavens and the earth. God saw that this was good. God said let there be light and there was light and the darkness was on the surface of the deep. And there was night and there was day on the first day (Genesis 1 paraphased). God is so God. God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them. God created everything and everyone of us. He gives life and new life. God breathed into adam and gave him breath. God is an awesome God with supernatural powers. One has to be very careful when referring to God, because people have created many different God's and may as well think that their God (Idle) created everything or somethings. There is only one true God, which is God the Father Almighty, the maker of the heavens and the earth, the begining and the end. Everything happens for a reason,a season, and a lifetime. Trust in God. In order to find out study God's word consistently and watch him reveal things unto you and speak to you. In order to receive it, you must believe it. Besides what do you have to loose. Try it. Amen.

is Truth factual? Is faith factual? (be very careful here, I am including ALL religions, not just yours) surely the some faiths are completely wrong & UN-factual? You cannot prove a double negative. what do I have to lose? My time, my money, my self respect.....

I believe in God, so I can't say why others don't as they have their own reasons and beliefs and I respect everyone for having an opinion. But alot of the reasons people have told me for not believing is because God isn't something you can see, so how can he exsist? Alot of people have a hard time believe in something that is untangiable to them no matter how you slice it that's just their belief and that's okay. I know that God is there, I believe in his love and power and grace and for me that's all I need. :-)

There are many reasons. Even if the evidence is staring you in the face, you can still deny it. A couple reasons. You don't know what the right religion is. If you can't pick one, don't pick any. Another is you think that if you don't believe you are excused to do whatever you want. "Timmy you're a bad boy, you will be punished." "But I didn't know." ..."ohhhhh ok... you're excused then Timmy."

I have often wondered the same thing, Theonerm. Nothing here in our universe could possibly have happened with a designing hand involved. All the proof I've ever needed that God does exist is to step out into nature, or observe the wondrous way a human being is put together. I do not know how anyone can "explain away" what to me seems so obvious. Karen

Some people do not believe in God because, they want to enjoy the fullness of life with no limitations, others because there are serval relgions and church and each saying something different from the other. Some are just confused about making a right choice,so have already choice their part never to believe in God.Since we all have a free will. The chose is always ours so you have the right to believe to anything you want but bring where will you be at the end for time. Some even say that heaven is on earth.... Actually everything happens for a reason.

Why do people not believe in God? The Bible which is the word of God says that this world is being ruled by Satan the Devil. And as such Satan wants the people to turn away from God. So he makes all these things- even science so that instead of believing that God created us and this earth God created to be a paradise, people will be turning away from God. That's why we experience these calamities because Satan want us to blame God for these and that's what 's happening now. People blame God and says that these are Acts of God wherein the truth is these are the acts of the Devil to turn us from God as like what he did to Adam and Eve. In the end God will destroy Satan the Devil and his cohorts together with all wicked people who are trying to blind us and pull us away from God. But that(turning away from God) will not happen to people who really have their trust and love for GOD because in the end God will triumph against Evil when He at last destroy them FOREVER.
