I like them both personally. However my diary is in my head you know like the friends wendy willams has in her head. I write special thoughts, days, and thoughts that come up in my spirit that I need to ponder about and make some decisions on. I have found that in school i never liked reading or writing but now since i have gotten older i am enjoying it even more. I used to think people who say i am going home and curl up with a good book were boring with a capital B. Now look who has grown and gotten wiser. Reading browdens my horizons and opens my mind up to so much more. It keeps me expanding my visions and goals. Try journaling sometime and go back months from now and read and check off what you wrote. You will find it fascinating. :)

Lots of people use the words diary and journal interchangably; however, I always feel that a diary should contain an account of your day while a journal allows for more freedom in regards to content. I always feel quilty when I don't update a diary daily and to avoid feeling like a failure I just give it up. In my journal I can do diary type entries, but I can also make lists, write poetry and short stories, use journal prompts, do visual entries, glue in ticket stubs, etc. Obviously, the distinction is in my mind, but I like the freedom that the journal format gives me.

I love to do journals. Back when I was in high school my teacher would ask us to keep one and at the end of the week we have to pass it so she can grade how we did. She wrote a note stating that I would do good in writing and so I continued doing my journal even if she did not require us anymore because I enjoyed it. Yes, it is interesting to go back to your journal and read on to the events that happened to you.

Reading your post was like looking at myself in a mirror. I absolutely hated to read any type of book when I was in school, and now I read every day. In the last year, I've probably read over two hundred novels. I might have read twenty books front to back in the first twenty years of my life. Anyway, when it comes to writing, I much more prefer a journal. I started journaling when I found out I was pregnant. I find it hilarious to go back and read some of the things that I wrote over a year ago during all of the hormones. And you are right, it is fascinating to look back and see what you were experiencing and noting down several months or even years ago.

I prefer to journal. I have a lot of journals. I have about 35 or more. They are in the lower part of my bookshelf. Piled up. Most of it is crap. But some of it is OK. I am trying these days to write with more direction. Instead of just complaining. Because that sounds like mish mash to me. When I am writing with purpose I think it helps. I write better like this. Also I am more proud of it. Instead of mumbo jumbo I get something that is at least slightly interesting to me. When I read it again. But sometimes I just want to write.

I prefer diaries because they tell you what to do, while a journal only writes what you have done for a day. Actually, to tell you the truth, one thing I cannot do with journaling is to keep writing things everyday, because I just don't have the time to do that. That is why I prefer a diary, because diaries lets you write anything interesting. :) ANd it lets you keep your schedule and calendar and contacts details too!

I do not prefer to use either of the two as I am not keen on keeping things and if ever I write it others may discover may humiliating secrets which I do not like to happen. I am better of to keep my thoughts in my head or maybe it is much better to me to remain anonymous and write a blog instead where I could put all my thoughts.

Hi. I prefer keeping journals. Like you, I'm a voracious reader. I love keeping journals of important points I've read, think, or heard. I could not remember keeping a diary even when I was younger. I enjoy reading my previous journals. It reminds me of a saying that goes like this, "You will remain the same five or ten years from now - except for the people you meet and the books you read."
