I just got a kitten from the petstore today. He is a cute little thing. Anyone have any good kitten advice? He is making himself comfortable here. I have a dog but he is away for the weekend. I'm using this time to make the kitty feel comfortable. They said at the store he is very friendly and likes to play with ferrets!

Make sure your place is kitten proof. Be sure you cover any small places where he or she could get stuck. Make sure you don't have anything valuable where it can easily be knocked over. Cats are going to want to look. Its in their nature to be nosey little things. Get him used to the dog. While the animal is away, show the cat some of the dogs things and explain that there is another animal around. It'll help with the adjustment process for when the dog returns. When it is time for the dog to return, introduce them slowly. Spend a day where you can stay home and be with the animals all day. Isolate them at first, but slowly bring them closer to one another. Alow the cat to explore your home but fallow it at a distance to make sure its not getting into any trouble. And, like the person above me said, schedule an apoitment with your vet to have him examined. Also obtain shot records and what ever else you can from the pet store. This will help your pet out in the long run so the vet knows what has and hasn't been done. Most kitens taken to pet stores are seen by a vet before being allowed to be put on display, but now this kitty is yours and its important you take very good care of it.

Thanks for your feedback. I've been debating whether or not to let him sleep with us. I might that way we could keep an eye on him (sort of) at night.

make sure he knows where his litter and food are located. be sure to make toys available for him and be sure to play with him Have you taken him by your vet? Do that as soon as you can, just because you got him at a pet store isn't a guarantee he's in good health. what does he look like? what's his name?

Congrats on your new addition. Cats are cute. I got one a month ago and he is cute. He gets into everything and is nosey. Show him where is litter box and food is. Always be sure to have water for him. Buy him some toys to play with. Get him fixed at four months. When the dog comes home make sure that you are home that day to make sure they are both used to each other. The dog may become territorial because the dog was there first. Show the cat the dog items and explain that the dog is a member of the family also.
