How many Christmas gifts?

How many gifts will you buy each person? each child? any gifts for extended family members? I'm not sure yet as money is tight & the overtime @ hubby's work is slowing down to nada. So I'm hoping for maybe 1 or 2 decent gifts for each of the kids and some lil things from the dollar store (like headbands, lip gloss ect). I got the hubby 3 things and that's all he's getting. We usually get his parents a gift card to somewhere and that's all that's on our list really. How about you? How many gifts per person or per child do you plan on buying?

It depends on the person. I tend to buy a bunch of smaller, cheaper things for people than ONE big present. This is good for me, because then I can buy all the presents in small increments, over the course of the month (sometimes earlier if I'm motivated, but usually I start shopping in December), and it works because that way I don't have to drop a whole lot of money all at once. For my little sister, I'm getting her a combination of clothes (which I know kids hate, but I found some really cute things at the thrift store!), a few Dollar Store trinkets/toys (they don't know the difference - LOL), and then a nice toy from Target. So, I'm getting her a lot of stuff, but it's only totaling to about $30 total, and it gives her a lot to open up. I don't know about your kids, or your preference, but when I was a kid: the more presents I had to open, THE BETTER!

I don't know. My kids are each getting 3-4 big gifts. My hubby is hard to shop for. But I got him a few things too. We usually get the in laws one gift each, but a nice one. This year, I think my dad in law will like his. I don't remember counting out for each person.

I don't go for a certain number of gifts for my kids. I usually just stick to a price range. It varies from year to year. This year so far I have spent about $50 on my son and he has 6 presents and my daughter only has 2 so far for a total of about $15. They are both going to get a few more, but it will be under $100 for each of them.

Since I'm a college student, money's tight and people aren't expecting much this year anyway, I'll only get one present for each of my closest family members. I've already gotten them all and wrapped them, so I'm good to go. w

We have just been blessed by the birth of our 3rd child. Baby birthing being expensive as it is, we decided on $100 for each of our 3 kids and 1 prezzie each for my nephews and nieces. All the grownups are just getting a card. A bit harsh, I know, but money isn't as easy to hang on to these days.

Everyone gets two gifts from me this year, along with a stocking (even the adults love their stockings!). I have bought much more in the past and could have done so this year, but some in the family are having a rough time so we all decided to limit how much we would spend. Even at that, there should be plenty under the tree!

Well, in our family we have a price limit. We can only spend $30 on each person. I usually end up getting most of my gifts for people through my internet work. Otherwise, I would not be able to do that. I like getting stockings for people too, so I send away for free samples to fill little stockings. None of the people I buy for are children, but I always loved stockings when I was a child, so I do it anyway for the others. My parents and I just don't have much money. My sister and brother-in-law aren't rich, but they are doing pretty good. But because of my parents and me, we use the lower price limit. I buy for my parents, sister, and brother-in-law. I also get small gifts for one of my aunts, but the rest of my family - like cousins, and other aunts and uncles I don't buy for. I've got 9 aunts and uncles and over a hundred cousins (2nd and 3rd cousins included). Only my immediate family get together for a real Christmas. There are too many other family members that have their own extended family.

My extended family only buys for their children. If we want to give to adults it has to be hand made and under $5, truly a gift from the heart. I buy for my adult sons and usually get them 3-5 gifts. They live across the country from me and I always send them stockings stuffed with candy, fitness bars and little presents just as I have since they were small. When they were growing up there was one gift from Santa apiece and one each from me and their dad.

My kids normally get around 10 gifts each. Last year they had like 14 or 15 each. This year it will probably just be the 10. That will be on top of stocking stuffers. Granted not all of the presents are big and expensive. Usually they get at least 1 clothing item. This year the older 3 are all getting a winter coat as a gift. They also always get at least 1 book, this year my daughter will get 2. The younger 2 sometimes get a few gifts less, just because they're younger and don't notice. I'm not even finished yet this year, so we'll see. My husband also gets about the same amount, but again, some of them are minor stupid things. I got him some slippers, a watch, new pajamas, work pants, stuff like that. The only really good gift he's getting is Mario Kart for the Wii. We normally don't buy gifts for anyone else, except maybe his parents if we know they'll have stuff for the kids. They obviously only get 1 gift each, or sometimes 1 combined gift. Last year it was just a picture I printed off my computer of my kids and I put it in a frame.

I often wonder what other people do about this too. I know some people go all out for their kids. We can't do that. We buy a few gifts and some stuff from the dollar store like you do. Little kids don't mind getting gifts from the dollar store.

This year we were only able to do 20 gifts for each of the kids, they are getting older and asking for more expensive items so we did get quite as many things. I am done with the shopping for everyone the only thing I have left to get is stocking stuffer candies for the kids. We normally get for the kids , both of our parents, a friend of ours two girls and then husband and I get a few different items for one another that we know of and then another surprise item for each other. I have gifts under the tree now but they are all items for our parents and eachother the kids gifts stay hidden until Santa brings them out on Christmas eve....

I obviously have a budget on christmas gifts, as it's not good at all to waste all your hard earned money on christmas gifts. I would obviously buy children 3+ presents as they are more demanding than adults, and the more they have the happier they will buy. To normal adults, I would give them 1 or maybe 2, they don't ask for much and always appreciate anything that they are given. However, the amount of presents that I buy, as mentioned early relies deply on the money I'm willing to spend for each one.
