Drinking own urine .. what can you say about this?

Philippines
December 6, 2009 5:37am CST
I received a telephone call from a longtime friend from work yesterday. The usual hello's led to talks about colleagues and how they are doing. As I mentioned about one colleague who was recently hospitalized, this friend talked about how her own husband's deteriorating health improved due to herbal medicines. She told me that she has been drinking herbal medicines, too. And ... she told me that she is taking her own urine for health purposes, too. What can you say about the practice of drinking own urine? Would you drink your own urine, too, for health reasons?

I can't imagine drinking my own urine, my own body waste. It is so disgusting and I haven't heard of any health benefits by drinking it. The last fight of Juan Manuel Marquez, he reveals that he is drinking his own urine so many are shocked. Also here in our country, urine from the morning is also a treatment for sore eyes. But maybe we are not just aware of it's health benefits that the other knows.

Is that so? Is it Juan Manuel Marquez, the boxing champ they are referring to as the one drinking urine? Thanks for that. I really don't know of any medical or scientific proof to their claims. However, I have heard that the first urine in the morning is good for sore eyes. A lot have been cured with the ailment and I am a witness to that in the past while I was in the province. But, I am still a NO to the idea of drinking urine.

According to Mr. John Armstrong. Urine is a water of life. And from the proverb 5:15 drink water from thy own cistern. Meaning we can drink urine from our own. Traditional belief said that the only unpolluted thing in this world is our urine and from history it can heal wounds or something like that. But it was just a long time ago now, as we invented new things we can also know and invent new knowledge. So lets face now the fact, urine is one of the body fluids that's being excreted by the body so it mean urine is a waste product, so why you going to drink it once you already excreted it? ha ha. Drinking my urine just for health reasons? What reasons huh? Do you think it will help huh? Why not just drink water. Urine is composed of urea, uric acid, creatinine and others and that's all substances that is harmful to our bodies. Too much of one of those may lead you to kidney disease, and more. Just curious, what will be the benefit of drinking our own urine?

Hi, ayebelle. My friend says she is taking her own urine because she heard that it does a lot of things. She said it is used to heal wounds and it prevents strokes. She said it also cures cancer, diabetes, infections, and other things that I was not able to digest as I was telling her to stop as I no longer wanted to listen to her, lol. Ahh, she said that urine is believed to be the source of the "fountain of youth" which most people are searching. It is still a NO for me, lol. Thanks for sharing. God bless!

Yes, ayebelle. I haven't heard of a confirmation to these therapeutic claims that they are saying, too. I am still a NO girl.

oh yes that was a long time ago now. Hmm yes it still No for me. I dont believe on such things like that. because there's no scientific explanation why urine can cure disease? Whaaaat?

minging lol, personally I don't think its healthy to drink your own urine, as it is basically your own bodies waste. the body will of taken any nutrients or minerals or vitamins out of your body before you then pass urine so all that your urine will contain is what your body does not need.
• Philippines
6 Dec 09
I don't think that it is healthy, too. Urine is one of our bodies' waste and I don't understand why we have to take in waste into our bodies again. As I was talking to my friend from my past employment, I told her to stop talking about it because I felt like I was about to puke. I surely cannot take drinking my own urine. But, I had watched a tv show about this topic before which had, in fact, testimonials thereto. Just the same, I am not sold out to that idea or practice ever. Thanks, benny! Have a nice day.

I don't believe that urine can cure it is not healthy to drink it because it is our body waste. It is dirty and this belief is long time ago. One of the boxer who drinks his own urine is Manuel Marquez he believe that it gives him stamina and power. Maybe it is only in the mind and it don't really cures.

what? arthritis cured? eh... ... i don't know if something like that can actually happen.
• Philippines

It really makes me sick, too. I am sure I cannot even stand hold the glass with urine and bring to my mouth. It just repels me to do that -- I am sure of that. My friend has testified that she had become more active, arthritis cured, etc. but no, thanks. I say I just hope I would not be put into situations which will force me to drink it.

Hi moneymakingtoday! I've actually heard about that drinking-urine thing before. They said that you only drink your early morning urine. The one that you pee when you wake up in the morning :D I don't know about the facts about this practice. They say that there are actually books written about the health benefits of it. I haven't seen the book/s though. I don't know if it really works but I'm actually open-minded about it. There are still a lot of things that science can offer to the world, whether it be sounding ridiculous or not, hehehe! It's quite a good point though that urine is a body waste, hence the reason it's excreted out of our body. But one thing is for sure for me, even if the facts about the health benefits of drinking urine are indeed true, I still wouldn't practice it. Just the thought of it makes me sick. There are still other ways of maintaining good health. For me, exercise, along with a healthy diet, are still by far the best practices for good health. Not only are they beneficial to the body but to the mind as well as they promote discipline and provide long term effects.

Yeah. And although I'm still open-minded about it, I'm still quite on the "no side". I mean, just the fact that urine is our body's waste makes it an irrefutable argument. There's a reason why our body excreted it -- it's a waste! Now why would we take back what our body has rejected? Our kidneys act like a sieve or strainer for our body so that it can separate the nutrients from toxins, then those toxins are then exited as urine. So it's quite obvious that urine should be discarded rather than drank. :)

Yes, amen to that. The fact that it is waste, it should be thrown away. (I am from Cebu City.)

Hi, veronizm. You are from Opon, now Lapu-Lapu City. How are you? Yes, you are right. I don't know why some people resort to drinking urine to improve their health conditions or, as a matter of healthy practice. Have they given up on science and medical interventions? Eating the right kind of food, living a clean life, exercise and diet are surely better ways than drinking urine. I have heard positive testimonials from people who drink urine. I would say it is fortunate for them to get these benefits. Lucky for them who dared and took it. But, I still wouldn't drink urine.

hello ... 'amaroli' or urine therapy is as old as time itself, but like any other alternative medicines, creates the feeling of uncertainty & it's nature would create much discomfort in undergoing such treatment. it is found in different cultures under different names, yet it hasn't been proven that it works. there's a book written on it. you may check the web or wiki for urine therapy or amaroli. i remember my grandma told me to put urine on a bee or wasp sting if i can't find an onion. who knows maybe it works, but hey i won't be the one trying to prove it ;) cheers!
• Philippines
8 Dec 09
Hi, richy. Well, maybe there might be some truth to that. We have yet to see proofs. Thinking that it is, in fact, waste from our body just makes it hard for me to even try it. The idea itself is absurd. I remember that in the past when I was younger, one is advised to pee on someone's foot for having stepped on a thorny sea urchin. It worked as the thorns embedded on the foot just seemed to melt and disappear. It is still being done, I know. But drinking urine is another thing ... it is still a NO thing for me.
• Philippines
8 Dec 09
Hi, richy. Until this is scientifically proven, we still cannot tell if someone drinking urine is indeed right in doing so. We feel it is dirty because it is our body's waste. On the other hand, some people who have really been practicing on it, say otherwise. And they have the beneficial effects on themselves to talk about. I just don't buy the idea. Thanks and have a nice day.

hello ... this thing has been used in CSI once;) ... yeah i think someone mentioned this in a comment. there are a lot of books & sites dedicated to this. on 1 hand we have people saying that urine is our body waste & on the other they say it is sterile & may be considered as the removal of excess stuffs out of our body, like you i can't get to myself about doing it, but i also can't say that i doesn't work, i just don't know. yet the concept of 'dirty' to us is often biased, we would call anything bad or dirty if we can't accept direct contact, it looks disgusting or smell bad. in fact something really dirty would be something that has enough toxins on it to harm us someway like some bacteria infested 10 days old pizza;) ... yet the same pizza on day 1 plus a few hours will still have some bacteria on it, yet one may eat it;) for sure i'm not going to experience it on me, well i don't know if i'm shipwrecked will consider!your friend may be right or a fool, but we will never know, then i think the best is to watch & see;) cheers!

Indian Prime Minister Morarji Desai used to advocate drinking of Urine as a good health practice. Since then it is called Morarji Cola here. I do not know about the health aspects but as it is more or less liquid it would not seriously harm a body, but more than anything just the concept of drinking the urine makes me sick. :) Cheers! Ram

There have been lots of testimonies from people who are doing it. There have been lots of news and awareness about this. I have heard about this a long time ago. This came up again when a friend from a past employment called me yesterday. My stand years ago and today is still the same ... I can't take drinking my own urine. Like you, the idea itself makes me puke and sick (that was why I told my friend to stop talking about it).

an old mountain woman told me one time to always wipe the baby's face off with the diaper when it was just pee. supposedly it kept the skin/complection very nice. but i could never do it...yuck imagine growing up and finding out your mom wiped your face with urine? disgusting. wonder where crazy people come up with such things. tell your friend he/she has done lost their mind so bad there may not be help for that.

Hi, bunnybon. I like your profile picture ... cute dog. I am smiling at what you said. Babies are so delicate and wiping the face with urine is, I think, uncalled for. Their skin are so delicate that mothers have to make sure that their hands are clean when handling babies or infants. It is absurd thinking that you are wiping body waste unto a delicate baby's skin. Yes, I told my friend that it is dirty. She wouldn't listen as she said it has improved her health conditions.

I have never of heard of your own urine being any good for you before! I did hear something about urinating on your feet cures tinea although I doubt it because it sounds most unsanitary to me! If I was seriously ill and urine was the only proven cure I would consider drinking it but only if it was proven otherwise I would stick to the conventional methods. Isn’t urine toxic being a waste product from the body?

Hi, paula. First of all, I have to tell you that this is the first time that I have seen a 100/100 reputation. I am happy for you, congrats! I wouldn't dare it, too. I wouldn't drink my urine if there is another way to be healthy. If forced by circumstances as to save my life as in a shipwreck or being stranded without fresh water supply, I might drink urine. But under normal circumstances, I won't! Some say urine is 95% sterile for the first hour it is being collected. For me, I still don't want to take in a waste that has been excreted from my body. Being waste, it should be thrown away. Thanks and have a nice day!

I didn't read any books that drinking a urine is good for our health. I heard this from Manuel Marques, that when he is preparing to fight May Weather he told to one of the reporters that he is drinking his urine to became strong...But the end is losing the fight. I have read and heard before that your own urine is supposedly good for your health and the that persons in different countries do this daily for nutrition and health reasons but I just think it is yuck..I mean as far as I have always been told and understood is that your urine is also a way to flush out waste and infection or even disease at times so I don't really see why you would want to but I also saw a story once where a couple was stranded in the desert or something and had to drink their urine to keep dehydrated or they would die so while it may be yuck I think if I had to do it to save my life i more than likely would.

No and Never !!! I would not support drinking own urine. Urine is the water which came from body after sucked or filtered by our vital body parts kidney. If you lost your both kidney you will die so kidney suck or filter our body's poisons and so we discharge it in the form of urine. Prime Minister of India Late Mr. Morarjee Deshai used to drink his own urine for health but he did not survived for this ??!!!!!

Under normal situations, I won't too. But as a matter of survival, I can't say now that I won't. That might force me to do it, lol. I have read that some people in other countries had been practicing this long ago. They claim that drinking urine cures a lot of ailments. They say it can cure allergies, asthma, arthritis, cancer, etc. You might find this link a good one to burn your time away: http://healthlibrary.epnet.com/GetContent.aspx?token=5344349d-8fbc-446e-8ae5-03a924025f8c&chunkiid=161688 Thanks for sharing, edigital! There is a doc in Indore in India, Who treat his mother with cow urine and so many other patient too. I hope you get answer of query.

Few months back i have seen an article where a reigning boxing champion has made an practice of drinking his own urine coz his daily routines involves extreme workouts for which he had take proteins and he thinks that he is wasting out all those proteins through his urine so he has decided to take his urine so doesnt loose them any more.he must be crazy to do this and i wouldnt go for it and i believe that our urine contains only wastes.gud day.

That is something to smile about but doubt it. I don't see any reason why we should take it back to our system. It has been thrown away by our body because it doesn't need it. It all depends on one's choice and belief, after all. It does them good so, they are drinking it. Let us respect that. But, as I always say, I am still a NO.
• Philippines
7 Dec 09
No, I won't, urine contains wastes from our body. Urine have more urates or uric acid that is not good for the body. It also contains minerals that our body does not need anymore. Why do we have to take in what our body has rejected already?
• Philippines
7 Dec 09
Yep, it has been thrown away by our body. It is waste and why should we take it back into our system? I still wouldn't want to drink my urine nor anybody's, lol. This has been the practice in other countries. As to its efficacy and healing properties, they alone can attest to that. Of course, the dangers of drinking urine should always be considered.
