They are just on hiatus. The season continues on January 14th. It's always like this around late November/Early December, then picks up again after the holidays. Ellen Pompeo had her baby I believe either just before the season started or right after, and from what I heard, she wasn't missing as much as they though she would be, because she did a lot of pre-shoots before the baby came and was returning earlier. Also, because her character was laid up because of an operation early in the season she was missing quite a bit early season anyway. 
So yea... it's definitely not near over yet. I can't wait till it comes back in January, actually, the next episode is a Grey's Anatomy/Private Practice crossover event--I love those, so even more excited.

Oh, so that's why they made her stay at home for her recovery. She gave her kidney (or was it liver) to her dad right? Usually they would fast forward a character's recovery into oblivion. I was really confused why they made her stay at home. She's one of my favorite characters so I was really surprised when she took a backseat this season. Can't wait to see more of her. I'm liking the new characters too. Can't wait for the season to continue. What am I gonna do till January 14?

It isn't over yet thank goodness. I am missing my grey's fix though. I was surprised they took the episode from Thanksgiving all the way up to New Years. I didn't know that the actress who plays Meredith was pregnant lol. I can't believe I have to go the rest of December without Greys.
