I went out to eat tonight...

I went out to eat and I feel so sick now! I was at Olive Garden and got so sick from the food I got. I ordered this new manicotti thing with chicken and at first it was fine, then I started to realize the chicken came out like rubber and the pasta was hard. I am pretty sure the food was reheated! SO I complained and the waitress told me that it would come out of her paycheck if I send the food back. I told her I didn't care because I wasn't going to pay $14 for food that isn't even fresh! So in the end I paid half price! What do you do in a situation like that? I never, ever send food back and hardly ever complain but seriously now...

Well, if the chicken tasted like rubber and if the pasta was hard, then you have every right to send the food back. I have never sent food back, but we did have a great experience at olive garden once. We were out entertaining friends a few years back, when there was a thunderstorm outside. We just finished our meal when the lights went out. As we only had cards to pay, and all the machines were not working, we ended up not having to pay for anything.

Yeah, I usually like it there but I just can't believe the terrible food this time around.

I would defintatly have sent the food back. I am not going to pay those prices and have rubbery chicken and hard pasta. When you pay for something like that you want it to be right. I have never had a problem ever at Olive Garden except for the odd rude waitor/waitress and very slow. Never made sure that our drinks were replenished. I never thought that if the meal was not up to standards that it would come out of their cheque. Heck they didn't even cook it. Wouldn't it go back onto the cook and not the server. It's not their fault that the food isn't up to par. I think that she was just saying it just because she couldn't be bothered about it. Most of them are like that as well.

I usually am fine with Olive Garden but this time was a horrible experience. And to top it off, my niece was with me and she's 7 months pregnant so I'm afraid she's going to get really sick like I did. I used to waitress and it came out of our check, even though it wasn't our fault. Pretty much everything came out of our check. I think it should definitely come back on the cooks who are paid an hourly wage and are the ones responsible.

hi deemazing that waitress lied through her teeth, your complaining and sending the food back would not have a thing to do with her paycheck, for heavens sakes, she did not cook the thing. sounds like the cook goofed up and I would have made them take it back and give me fresh food that was not rubbery or hard. thats awful. I complained once that the baked potato that come with my meal was s tone cold so I asked the waitress to reheat it so she took it off and it felt really hot ,so I proceeded to open it all the way up. to my horror sitting on top of the sour cream was a goodly sized hunk of human hair, red in color just like the waitress's hair.okay my husband demanded to see the manager who was an older man. he looked at the red hair and at the red haired waitress then yelled you are fired. he went and got another clean hot baked potato and he refused to charge us for my meal. my hubby had taken me out to dinner for my birthday. So I had a free meal for my birthday dinner all on account of the red headed waitress who had a mad on against me for wanting my baked p otato hot.

That is a great story! I'm glad you got a free meal. That waitress sounded like a real nut case.

Good for you! The waitress was irresponsible to serve you uncooked food and the cook was wrong too. As I understand it, Olive Garden's food is pre-cooked and the most they have to do is microwave it, I heard that from somewhere so I'm not entirely sure of that. If you had ended up in the hospital, you could have sued the restaurant so the waitresses statement was definitely the wrong thing to say, she should have apologetically taken your dish and given you a fresh meal. With no satisfaction from the waitress I would have demanded to see the manager. These days fourteen dollars is a lot of money to throw away, my husband and I are retired and we can't afford to lose money. I feel bad, in a way, for the waitress, if she was telling the truth, she can't really afford to lose the money, it is wrong to make her responsible for another's mistake.

I don't understand why it would come out of the waitress's paycheck, it ought to come out of the cooks. I believe customers should do exactly what you did in order for the restaurant to know whether they're doing right by the customer and feeding them not only edible but delicious food.

i have actually gotten food poisoning from red lobster. i also knew a guy who worked there at that time and he said it happens more than you would care to think. this is because of the high volume of orders and the low amount of staff.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Olive Garden. I haven't been there in ages. I wonder if the chicken wasn't even cooked long enough? You did the right thing to complain. I know I would if it turned out like that. I don't know why the cost would come out of the waitress' pocket, she didn't cook it. Very strange.

Hi deemazing, what on earth kind of place is it that charges the waitress for sent back inedible food. You should have called the owner. Of course you send food back if it is bad and they should be ashamed to send it out of the kitchen in the first place. I don't agree with people clearing almost all the food though and then sending it back. Hope you feel better soon. The only time I've wanted to send the food back was when our friend insisted on taking her own big pan of chicken stew into the taverna and it was just ghastly. I couldn't send it back though as the taverna had nothing to do with it and I think have now drawn the line at her taking her own food from home in.

I'm really surprised that the waiter said that to you about it being taken out of her pay. I have never heard of such a thing. When I have ordered food and not found it good or just didn't like it they have always given offered me to pick something else and I wouldn't have to pay for both meals. I would have done the same thing you did only once she said it would have come out of her pay I would have asked for the manager. One look at the meal he would know it was not good and he would have probably given you another entree for free. I hope you are feeling better.

First off, I think that the waitress was full of something about saying that if you were to send the food back it would come out of her paycheck. The problem that you had did not seem like it had to do with her service, instead it sounds like the issue was in the kitchen. That being the case, if the cost of the food should have to come out of the paycheck of the kitchen staff and not the waitress. Now, I will send food back if it isn't prepared the way that I've requested that it be prepared. And, I will speak to the manager if the service is not up to my standards. I don't ask for a lot when I go to a restaurant, but I do want to be treated like I matter.

Oh my... I would have asked the manager to come instead of the waitress. But in the end did the new manicotti thing taste good or it was still beyond description? paying half price is better than full amount but I would be happier if the manager waived off the entire bill (but I doubt it will happen though)

I would have sent the food back. I got sick for eating at Burger King once. It was so bad i had to go to the ER. I was sick at least 1hr or so after eating it. The Doctor came in the room and said food poisoning. I was like ok. I couldnt stop vomiting and he said the test they run showed the chicken did me in. They called the health department at some point. There had been 6 people in the ER that had gotten sick from there. So yeah, i would have sent it back. Your not paying money to get sick, your paying money to have a nice meal. The waitress was out of line for saying that.

I think what you did was right. I had a similar experience once. Once I had a chicken burger which had a lot of the upper skin of the chicken. I was in my office when I started queasy. I just had to get it out of my system. So I drank a lot of water and went to the washroom and threw it out of my stomach in the commode. It was a nightmarish experience and certainly unpleasent.I had already paid for it so I couldn't do much about that.
