language is one barrier of the barriers of communication. it is very hard to be interacting with someone who doesn't speak the same language you speak. not having the same language means you cannot express yourself properly because you know that you cannot really understand each other. example if we plan to go to other countries to do our business in the future. say, Japan. its very hard to explain to businessmen there what you want or need. so the only solution is to get an interpreter. We have to find a solution to this barrier.

hi prettystar09! first off, welcome to mylot!!! i know you will enjoy your stay here in mylot. i agree with what you wrote down, language being a barrier in communication especially if the two persons involved do not speak the same language. i live in the philippines and aside from the national language of 'tagalog' and english, there are a lot of regional and local dialects spoken. so, imagine my frustration when i go to a province down south or up north and not even understand a word they are saying. i just think that there are ways of going around this barrier which may not even need an interpreter. before i go to the provinces, i make sure i know some of the basic phrases and words of the local dialect. just my two cents. cheers!!!

Language must be one of the most important thing in the communications. That is why each university in thw world are providing the foreign language class and training to help their young generate to have better communication with foreigners and study the textbook and papers from the foreign countries. Young generation should strive to learn at least one froegin languaage.

I agree with you that language is one of the barriers of communication, but to solve this problem like for example establishing a business to other country, before establishing the business you should make a research.Like their culture, aside from that you should prepare yourself to learn their langauge in order to have better communication and interaction with them. And with that you could establish good relationship with them.

I agree with you it is very hard to express yourself if the person you are speaking don't understand you or don't understand English. You are the one who need to adjust like you said you going to Japan you need to know their culture and their attitude towards business. Having an interpreter is the best solution so you can understand each other.

A solution would be an universal language.. I think this would be nice to have, but learning languages can be a good way of developing yourself, plus it's nice to see where words come from, the ethymology. I like learning new languages because when you do, it's easier to learn new other languages..

Language becomes a barrier when you are trying to speak with a person who does not understand your language...but when it comes to business communication I think most of them speak in English world wide...A universal language is a solution to this...It seems English has became one...

it is a fact that you have we have different language which could actually lead to a barrier in communication. our only recourse for this issue is the the common language which is English. that is why we really need a good communication skill which is in the form of the English language. this would mean that we are really in to our course or business if we to have a good English communication skill. language is really hard in communication that's why everybody is in to learning the common language which is English. so let's be advised still that as we communicate we are also learning as far as our partner is concerned, that is our partner in the communication process.

I think the problem of language differences is not a big problem, because all over the country have a lo of people who can speak english. So we do not have to worry about doing business with different languange to other countries. They would have prepared themselves to another person who speaks a different language to avoid misunderstandings. Beside interpreter, we can also use technology for conversation. So, do not hesitate to do business and socialize with people of different languages.

i agree with you. language is very important in communication because its hard to understant someone when you dont understant his language.

2 barriers to communication Perception - if we feel a person talking fast, not fluently, does not articulate clearly, ect., we may dismiss the person. Also our preconceived attitudes affect our ability to listen. We listen uncritically to persons of high status and dismiss those of low status. Message - Distraction happen when we focus on the facts rather than idea. Our educational institution reinforce this with tests and questions. Semantic distraction occur when a word is used differently than you prefer. Example: the word chairman instead of chairperson, may cause you to focus on the word and not the message.

For businessmen, I guess it is a must for an interpreter to be around as you need accurate translation details for negotiating project deals. But if you meant leisure travel, I don't think an interpreter is really necessary as most of the time, people actually used hand/body language and since most of the time, you might be looking for directions or asking for the pricing, thus there are a lot of mini-guidebook which contains simple words for different language. Thus, it might be a barrier but it is definitely not stopping people from all over to the world to make friends with each other.

yes, along with the strengthening of global economic integration, communication is very important, especially to which countries use another language. So many universities have the courses about foreign language learning. but i think the easiest way to solve this problem is chose one language as a universal language and then people learn it according their demands.
