Why many people like eating in the library ?

I think library is a good place to study .But I find many people eating snack there.Some made very big noisy ,I think you can not stand them .It is really a nuisance.sometimes I cannot preoccupy in my study.I don't know how to deal with them.It is really a problem.Have you come across such circumstance before ?

Hi Mickly,
Eating is not allowed inside our library. Silence is strictly implemented. Whoever violates this will be asked to get out. People in the library want a peaceful environment conducive for learning. People needs eat and take your snacks first before entering our libraries.

yes, we are lucky enough for having such a peaceful library. i admire the librarian for being strict in implementing the rules while inside the library. so, better behave or else you will be in trouble and will be ban to enter the library. taking food inside the library can make the place prone for rats, cockroaches, etc.

Hi, mickly08. We can't eat food or bring drinks in our local library. They have strict policies and guidelines against this. I know that people do eat in the library. I guess they do it because it is a way for them to study and read while being comfortable. Some people eat because they are hungry and they have a craving for something to snack on.

I did bring a drink in the library once, and the librarian tole me that we were not allowed to bring a drink, which I already knew that. I just brought it because I was walking in the town and it was very hot out the door. I was walking from different places until another location. So, I ended up buying a drink from the store while I was out and about. So, I had to come to the library with it. I had nowhere to put it. So from now on, if I have to come to a building with a drink, I will stuff it in my purse. Especially if it is a plastic bottle. I don't drink the drink anyways..

Yes, where we live at the local library is very strict. If they see your cell phone ringing, they will give you a look like you, are not supposed to have that in here kind of look. Or if your kids is running around and making a lot of noise they will give you the look, get your kids or else we will have to do something about it. I sometimes don't like going to the library with my kids. They can be noisy at times. I would just go by myself. The workers will watch who all comes in the library so they can see who misbehaves or not..

Many people like to eat something while reading and I do too. But I see that it's ok if I'm alone, and we shouldn't bring this habit to a public library. While eating, we can create the noise that breaks the silence, and the food may make the books dirty. In fact, at the libraries in my campus as well as in my city, food and even drink are forbidden, so I've never seen that circumstance.

Where I live, and in our country, I am not aware of any library that allows one to eat or drink there, for the fear of spilling it on the reading materials or a computer.
So it is not a problem. Quiet must be maintained according to the rules of our libraries.

Ummmm... I think that I happen to be that person in the library! Does it really bother people that much? I hope not! I just need to have something to help me focus on my books! I like food in general, too, so that might help. I will try to stop if it really bugs you guys that much!

Hi. I have never experienced eating in a library. We were not allowed to bring in food and drinks inside the school library. But I've seen other students secretly eating snacks behind the study tables.

your post is very strange i have visited many library but in all the places food(snacks) is not allowed. I think the library you are using is college library. In my college food is not allowed but i was informed in some college snacks is allowed. i like to give you one advice that start eating snacks in library because it will increase your concentration and time.

It is very irritating experience if someone make noises in library. Library is a place of silence. Here everybody wants silence. It is very bad if someone eat snack in library. I think you can give a report to the librarian or bookkeeper. I haven't came across with such circumstances. But if I would face such situation than I will notify directly to the librarian. Don't panic about it, I hope problem will be solved soon. Have a nice day.
