No, I don't know how to swim unfortunately. I learned how to when I was younger. I took lessons, but my mom made me quit because she thought I was too scared to listen to the instructors during my lessons. I never got far enough to learn properly, and now I regret it. I almost drowned a couple times because I didn't know how to swim and it's a bit harder for me to learn at this age because I can't easily go to place and just learn. There's just a lot to it that's preventing me. I've tried to swim but it has always failed because I never got to practice strokes or anything too much. Though, what I really enjoy, is swimming underwater and acting as though I really can swim because underwater, you can do any movement you want and you'll keep moving. I hope that you have fun learning to swim tomorrow =] Make sure to practice practice practice until you get the hang of it because the ability to swim is an extremely important one.

I took swimming lesson back in college but it is hard for me to learn all the strokes. I only know one stroke which is butterfly but I don't know if I still can swim because I'm no longer practice. I'm still afraid to go the deep part because my swimming skills is not that good I only know the basic.

Yes, I took lessons at the YMCA when I was twenty-something. I am still reluctant to get into the water, but once I do then I never want to come out. I love to swim. PS: Your English is better than my Italian.

Well I dont know if i should say yes or no.This ambiguity of mine is because if you push me into the pool,i'll throw my hands and legs and I can manage myself to safety. But I still fear water and not very confident of that.May be if I practice more and stay in water for longer periods of time,i can overcome this fear.

no i won't forgive your english, because it's very good! :). English is neither my mother tounge :P. Anyway, i don't go swimming that often. However, i can actually swim. I'm not a proffesional swimmer, i can swim faster with flippers but apart from that i'm just a regular. Basically i learned to swim by myself, with some pointers from my parents with i was a child. Like move your legs to stay upfloat. Don't ever panic, etc. I believe not knowing how to swim is not a big issue, i live on an a small island, so the residents know quite abit how to swim.

Hey it's ok if your english is bad. It doesnt matter how you post. What matters is the information. And I perfectly understood what you are trying to convey. Yes I know to swim. I have been to many places of water and swam. It is good to swim. It is a good exercise. It helps your whole body to be healthy. So learn swimming and always practice it whenever you get a chance.

I did learn to swim but at one of my sessions I almost got choked when in the deep. I can only think of shallow swimming now where children normally are seen! (lol)!!

But i want to swim, it is a good sport for our health. Maybe i will study together with my little daughter. It is a good chance for you that your girlfriend teach you, it is your pleasure, isn't it?

Partially yes, I know How to swim backstroke and freestyle. But i'm afraid to get somewhere above me. My mom told me, literally, I know how to swim, Im just afraid to go beyond. So when your girlfriend and you go to swim, just believe in yourself and have a determination. Go girl. You can do it

well codris i couldn't swim at one point either but i quickly learned this is how i learned without drowning XD first i did the hold my nose and hold breath(out of water) just to practice that and then i did in a bathtub i holded my nose and closed my mouth and dipped my head in tub real fast then as i soon got used to it i started dipping my head in longer and longer and then bam about 10-15sec then i tried it at the pool same thing dipped my head in and then i swimmed like that for a while but then i wanted to learn how to actually swim without holding my nose and like swimmers do so i just holded my breath without holdeing my nose and closed my mouth and went under u may feel water going into ur nose but it wont pass ur nose and then that is how i learned how to swim then the real swimming like how pros do it is easy once u know those tactics hope i helped :)

I can swim, I learned to swim when I was still in grade school, and I learned it the best possible way. That is learning to swim with my fellow peers in a river near our school. I remember that we usually cut classes just to plunged to the cool water of the river. Happy moments that I could still remember up to this moment.

Hi Codris, I can't swim, I'm 24 years old and I'm not embarrassed by it. However, I do wish I knew how to swim because it's something that everyone should learn at some point in their life. I know a few basics but if I was ever in the Ocean by myself, I'd probably drown which is awful but if I didn't have a life jacket I definitely would. My mom never signed my brother nor I up for swim lessons when we were younger, my brother ended up learning how to swim because of being in Boy Scouts. I still hope to learn someday in the near future, when I have my own children later in life it's something I'd like to know. Good luck with learning : ) I'm sure it'll be fun too and it's really nice that your girlfriend wants to teach you. You don't have to apologize for your English, at least you try, I know a lot of people who don't even try, I'm sure everyone here on mylot understands.

Do not worry about us, your English is good. As for swimming, yes I do know how to swim. That is good that you are taking the first step to learning to swim. Taking the first step is a good job! The first thing to do is to learn how to stay in the water. Two things to practice is doggy paddle and float. In order to float just stay on you back and pretend that you are flying. Raise you legs and you whole body up. As for doggy paddle just paddle you legs like a dog. Pretend you are swimming for your life. Move you arms and paddle your legs as fast as you can underwater. After you can master that then you can move on to the advanced swimming. In order to run you need to first learn to walk. Baby steps. So my advice is to practice practice practice. You can do it!
