Online holiday shopping this year...

This year, I did all of my Christmas shopping online through Amazon. The whole process took less than three hours, and I saved a lot of money and got free shipping. What a blessing for someone with health issues, or anyone. No crowds to wrestle, no long lines, and I got confirmation that all has been shipped. In fact, the first "batch" arrived today :)) It was a great experience! Do you do much shopping online? Have you ever done all your holiday shopping online? Tell us about the experience. Karen

Hi Karen, Since malls here are very accessible and you can find everything there, we're not into online shopping. we do the usual way of shopping our stuff. good that you're done with your shopping and you received the first batch already. i hope you have something for me in the last batch of delivery. hehehehe thanks in advance.

Oh no! I forgot to add you to my Christmas list. I think the biggest reason I'm a fan of online shopping is that I have disabilities. I do truly miss the Christmas atmosphere of going "in person," which I used to do all the time. The malls are particularly beautiful this time of year, but for me, completely exhausting or out of the question. But I got so into finding great things, that online was a great alternative :) Karen

Hi Jo. I'm sorry they didn't have the bean bag in stock. Kids just love those! Oddly enough, something else my own grandkids just love are those fleece throw blankets and those long body pillows :) I just adore kids. Karen

Jo, it is beyond me, too, how anyone can harm or even be mean to a child, any child! Hopefully, you can find another way to get the beanbag ball. I know he'd love it, too. :))

Hi Yugasini I am happy to have gotten the shopping done before the last minute, and yes, most online shopping sites accept PayPal. I've used that and also a debit card. And some sites even "bill" you, as in you can pay after the packages arrive. Happy holidays! Karen

I only have one Pay Pal account that covers everything. But I can put money in it from my bank account. Or I can transfer money from Pay Pal TO the bank account...they are interchangable.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, First of all, I would like to congretulate you for your well planned Chrismas shopping that too online, saving lot of time and money , further avoiding last minute panicky in the family. I did once in 2003 while in US, to send some Gift on first wedding Annivesay of my daughter , which has never reached till date. After that I never dare to do. I on-line shopping, custoer has no voice after customer pays the amount. Customer is at teh mercy of concerned shop-keeper to providethe item in time. So for me I always make my shopping in person.I make in advance and some items I do keep for special occasions due to rebate offered. Wishing you a very happy Chrismas and New Year-2010. May God bless You and have a great time.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji, So nice of you for your sympathy, yes, you are very lucky, later on, when I contacted many of my riends after reaching India, I was told never do any Gift-items combined with eatables as they will get only rottonitems, beyond humanconsumption, so we are happy with personnel shopping. My hubby will take me, wherever I want to go. Wishing you a very happy Chrismas and New Year-2010. May God bless You and have a great time.

Hi Karen, well the duvet I finally managed to order and get delivered to Greece has still not arrived, that's either 3 - 4 weeks, and I'm getting annoyed as it said 8 days and it is certainly needed now on these cold nights, so not to impressed there. I used Amazon to order my sons christmas present as we couldn't see it in the shop in town but my son had seen it previously at one price. I checked on line and it was half the price from the UK as here, so I'm really hoping that one turns up. I also tried to order him some books on line in English and was disgusted with what happened. There is one really cheap online book place but obviously postage is expensive. I went to order some books which on special offer at £10 for 6 books, as I'm in the euro zone they then decided that it would be E20 for exactly the same thing. This is nothing but a rip off as £10 equals approx E10 at the moment. So I find it very difficult to actually do it as either they refuse to deliver here, change the prices, or other such nonsense. Amazon in general now will agree to deliver half an order but not all of it.

No it is actually getting much worse. Years back Amazon would deliver anything here but now won't, but don't bother telling you until right at the end. It's the same with lots of other companies too which used to deliver. They have for some reason decided that Greece is no longer part of Europe properly, but we're in some sort of secondary zone time warp so each year online shopping regresses for us here.

Hi Thea. I'm beginning to sense from some of these responses that the online shopping experience sucks if one lives outside the US?? That's truly a shame. Your experience must have been a bit of a nightmare :( I think in years to come, that will change...or at least I hope so. Karen

Hi Karen, I do some online shopping, but since I have not made much money in my paypal account I have done no shopping online. I will be doing my Christmas Shopping tomorrow. I have to buy for my biggest child (my husband). He is the hardest. He never tells me what he wants. He always tells me I do not need anything. I am hoping by next year to start a Christmas savings account so I can always make sure that my husband and I have money for Christmas. This year the economy had hit us hard because his hours were cut back and I am out of work recent college graduate. I know I can make money on here and now know how much time I need to put on here to make a little extra. I am also going to start making Christmas stuff early and try my hand at selling things at craft fairs and maybe online.

Then yes, you're almost done. Isn't it fun shopping for the younger kids? I love snow, but am not fond of driving on slippery streets. We were part of that big storm that originate out west and have well over foot of snow from it. It finally blew itself out late yesterday and the sun was out today. Have fun with your shopping and be safe on the roads! Karen

Hello Dar. You're right. I think men are hardest of all to shop for. I can remember in the past asking other men in store aisles about certain tools and such. What did I know about them at the time? LOL. I'll be so glad when this economy gets back on track. It hit many hard :( You have a great idea there about making stuff. A couple of years ago, I began during the summer and knitted or crocheted scarves for literally everyone on my list. It was fun, and they turned out really well. Saved a whole lot of money, too. Enjoy the holidays :) Karen

Hi Karen I have three nephews to shop for and they were so much easier. When kids are little they are easy to shop for. All they want are toys or books. I hope to find something soon, I am getting bored at home. I am going shopping later on today and am hoping to find some bargains. We have about six inches of snow already and as much as I hate going out in the snow I know I have no choice. I am almost done shopping for my out of state family members, I just need to buy a Santa Claus for my mom and my niece hinted she wants a stuffing (thts what she calls a stuffed animal) animal. I will probably pick up each of my nephews a toy car.

I did most of my shopping online about a year or so ago. I got excellent deals on the items that I got because there was a promotion on Amazon, not to mention, I got free shipping. I love Amazon. I think it's the best way and best place to get anything for any reason. It's great for holiday shopping and great for just those things that you want. I've been shopping with Amazon for years and wouldn't think about going to someone else.

Hi Cher. That's what my mom does. I think it's in July that she begins picking up Christmas gifts here and there. We have such a huge family, and she always gets something for everyone, so I can see why she has to begin so early! Karen

Hey Karen! I love to shop online too! I never used to, but for certain things it makes sense! I haven't done any Christmas shopping online because I haven't decided what I am going to get yet so I just might have to actually go into the stores! I have bought furniture, jewelry, books, cds, and a pair of boots online! I usually am afraid to buy clothes because for myself I always like to try things on first! The boots were a first for me and thankfully they fit perfectly! I have always had good experiences, even when I had to return!

Hi Opal. Aww, I am so glad the boots fit. You're right, buying clothes, unless we are really familiar with the brand and such, is iffy. I've bought an office chair online once, the extent of my furniture experience, but I do enjoy shopping online. Was so tickled to finish all my Christmas shopping in such a short time :)) Karen

I do some shopping online although I did not do any shopping online this year for Christmas. I thought I was going to have to for a few items but I was able to find everything I needed just here in my local stores. I think I will be doing shopping at amazon for my kids birthdays here in May as long as they have what i am looking for in the right price range. There are some good deals out there and it is convenient for me because we live in a small town so there are some things that we don't have access to without driving miles away so to me online shopping is much easier...

I can't say that I did all of my holiday shopping online this year, but I can honestly say that well over half of my holiday shopping was done online this year. I also used Amazon for my shopping and I am very happy to say that it was a very positive experience. I started mine very early and basically got a batch of presents in every other month throughout the year. I am happy with the money that I was able to save and I am very happy with the fact that the shipping was free. I didn't have to fight the crowds and I was able to find all of the gifts that my family wanted.

That sounds like pure heaven to me! Online shopping is wonderful for those that are housebound, find shopping a nightmare, can't deal with crowds, the stress, the frustration, the queues, the list goes on, the beauty of being able to sit in your own home in the warm and just order straight from the computer saves so much aggravation and time, don't forget time is probably more precious than money in our short lifespans! So well done you! I have done a little bit of shopping on line but mainly I tend to get my presents throughout the year, the only problem is storage space and remembering when Christmas finally does come round what presents I have bought and many a time after Christmas I have found presents I have bought and forgotten about! I try to avoid the shops two weeks leading up to Christmas it's hell, pure hell! So I think we can all benefit from your wonderful idea Karen!

Hi Wolfie. You're so right. For many of us, being able to shop online is a true blessing! Storage. Yes, that can be dicey. I remember when the kids were young and at home still...hiding things and finding room for them was a challenge lol. I have done that...found a stray gift or two after the fact lol. I hope your holidays are great :) Karen

I did that last year and it was very easy I waited till last minute but I was still able to get all the gifts there by Christmas Eve. I dont live near any of my family so it was easy to send all the stuuf to my Sister and she wrapped everything and put it under the family tree for me. I did it all on my lunch break while having a sandwhich and it was done in just 2 luch breaks so that was record time for me.

Hello :) The biggest online sites are great at getting things out quickly, and yes, even for last-minute shoppers. And it always says upfront if something is in stock, unlike catalogs, for instance. Wow! Two lunch breaks. That's great :)) Another advantage to online shopping. Karen

I'm sorry you can get all the bigger online places. Hopefully, that will soon change. The shipping this year was all free, so not a problem. But yes, it can truly add up to a whole lot of money! That is why I deliberately seek out the free shipping deals and sale items. Karen

Online shopping is helpful for people who hate to spend time for shopping. I also do online shopping, but not much. I don't prefer to buy clothes online. Do you think Amazon has very good deals? I love going to a shop and buy things. Shopping is a stress breaker for me. So, I don't do much online shopping. But, I always check offers in various famous online shopping malls. Recently, I saw a good offer with a famous brand lipstick. I decided to buy at first, then I thought the factor of expiry date. I think some things which are on sale will have a very short to expiry. We have the zoom option to see things before buying in online shopping malls, but think about these types of hidden issues which should not make you lose your money.

Hi Daliaj. You're right about buying clothes online, as it's always nice to be able to "see and feel" the fabric and color and try the items on. I used to love shopping the stores themselves, and miss it. But for those of us who have disabilities, shopping online is a beautiful alternative. And yes, I always use the zoom option and read product details. Good point there :) Karen
