I go to yard sales often [and sometimes hold them at my house]. You can find some GREAT items and they are very social places.
Do you go to yard sales? What sorts of treasures do you find?
I have heard of many stories of people buying an artifact at a yard sale for a couple of bucks and it winds up being worth millions, or a purse being bought for a dollar and containing hundreds of dollars. [I once bought a purse with $25 in it]
Any good yard sale stories?

Like a good yard sale but love an estate sale even more. The last sale we went to we bought like 15 fishing poles, 2 car jacks, some Chilton manuels, and some silver trays. Didn't spend that much money but my hubby got a bunch of stuff he was really happy about. Cool find of the purse with money in it.

Yes, it was really cool. Its like, I paid 5 for the purse, and they gave me $20 for buying it. Win-Win. What is an estate sale? I have heard the term before, but was not exactly sure what kind of sale it is..

Oh wow, I have never heard of these, I will have to check them out! Sounds like you might get some great finds in there. I have heard of this sort of thing happening at storage facilities being auctioned off. Thanks for clearing that up for me :D

Estate sales are usually held after someone passes away or has to move to a retirement community. The entire contents of their house are actually auctioned off. So you can bid against others if it is something you really want. Items are often sold in lots. Bidding usually starts at like $5.00 for the lot and if no one else bids on it you get whatever is in the lot for that price. Great way to buy furniture and antiques.

Oh yes when the weather is nice I love to go to yard sales and I love to have them too. They are so much fun because you don't know what kind of treasures you might just find. I have found some beautiful Teapots that I love to collect. I brought a shawl for 2.00 dollars that truly keeps me warm and I just love it. In the store it would have easily cost about 25.00 dollars. I have found some good books for my granddaughter too. The best yard sales are the ones where people are moving. You can get some really good buys. People for the most part then just want to get rid of the stuff and will almost give the stuff away.

i so love yard sales!! aside from the cheap yet great finds, i get to learn other people's interest by looking at their things. i actually found a "book buddy"because of one of the yard sales in our village. she was selling her books because she had so many and there were no shelves available. i bought almost all her books because i also love books. we eventually talk about books, and we found ourselves talking about our favorite authors and novels for like one hour. from then on, she became one of my closest friends in the village and whenever i get the itch of buying a new book, she is the one i call to accompany me. and she also loves having me when she buys book for herself.

That is the great part about it! They are very social places. I have built up so many connections when it comes to sales. Whenever I find certain items such as fish tanks, books, or certain collectibles, I have all of the numbers and they buy them from me top dollar for keeping a look out. You can meet friends [I had a yard sale and one of my customers started talking to me and we started doing yard sales together and it was an amazing time] I just love them so much!! :D

I love the experience of yard sales throughout the summer. So many bargains can be found this way. It is inexpensive fun for any age.

You can go in with like 3 bucks and come out with a dinner set, some clothes and shoes, a purse, some accessories and still have change left :D

I'm don't really like or dislike yard sales. I've had a few of my own and they weren't terribly successful. The neighborhood I grew up in had a lot of great yard sales, and I used to buy a bunch of little toys and stuff from them. I never really found and "treasures," though.

Hello hatley.
Yard sales are a great place to just browse around and look at all the things people have. A lot of time there is nostalgia and will bring you back in time. Thanks for sharing! :)

I am a huge fan of yard sales. I can remember going to them from the time I was a child. I've been to them looking for litle things to decorate my house and my most recent reason for attending yard sales is because I like to be able to clothe my children for less money than buying the things locally or even going to the consignment stores.
I've never found any true treasures, but I have found some great overall bargains. The thing about it that makes me the happiest is the fact that I am able to provide my children's wardrobes for less than 100 dollars per year.

I love yard sales or garage sales as we call them in New Zealand, because they are usually held in a shed or garage to save things getting rained on, which does happen often in New Zealand too! I'm a real bargain hunter and often get real steals (good prices) on designer clothing and nice pieces of furniture. They are a great place to find long lost records or collectors items. We also have Saturday fairs where people may have a 2nd hand stall with everything in it from a yard sale. But no, I haven't been fortunate enough to buy something with money in it!!
