How do you feel about your job?

Long John Silvers/A&W - This is not my actual job, but it looks pretty much the same:)

I work at a fast food restaurant [Long John Silvers/A & W] It can be really fun and for the most part my customers are awesome and treat me great [there will always be those rotten eggs] My boss is so sweet and everyone calls her mom. [though she can get snippy so you gotta stay on your toes] I love the people I work with, they are funny and kind and work hard. My managers work closely with me because I am in training. I have good hours [now] The problem is, I make min. wage! I HATE IT SO MUCH. I am ready to leave a job I love as soon as one with more money comes along. I have been asking for a raise but it is out of her hands and the way things have been, I have been promised manager FOREVER but still have not seen it, even though I perform manager duties everyday! I love my job but I hate the pay. I cannot live on it much longer. It gets me by [barely] but I need something that pays more. What about you? Do you love your job? If you dont have one, maybe you have some advice for me in my dilemma? I would love to talk with anyone about this topic:)

That is really cool, I would not mind getting into that kind of work. How did you get into it?

Hi adam: sounds like a perfect job and it's good to know that you are happy doing what you want to do because these help people to do their best in their jobs. I am actually finish a job that makes me feel like a smart person, but it's very stressful and i have a lot of responsabilities and my boss it's horrible, she just complain for almost everything and the pay it's not very good. So i am happy to search something different. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. -Alvaro.

I'm sorta in the same boat as you unfortunately! I am practically the manager of the dry cleaning store I work at - but I still make $8.25 an hour for being a "counter clerk". I love our customers though, especially our regulars, and the job is so incredibly easy and convenient and stable that I can't seem to manage to leave it, even though I found a job at Macy's recently. I wouldn't say I love it, but if I made.. say a few dollars more an hour, I would certainly shut up complaining about it. LOL.

HI, well... I never work for american before. I work for myself, as far as I heard you work for the tips right? most place get a lot of tips(it worth than your pay) but in ur situation... I have no idea. Another thing, you can work hard and try to apply for manager position and it will make your pay change. You dont have to apply at the same place where you work now, somewhere else that you love to work. Manager posit might require some experience or some education(you know what Im talking about right?) I love my job, but it is really tired and a lot of work to do here... sometimes it gets me tired and lazy than ever... however, it is my everything here so I have to work hard to get it.

I am in line for a manager position now, but with the business being slow and hours being cut, it is taking long. And we can get tips, but most people here in america do not tip fast food workers [even though I service really well and it is table service]

I like my job- I have been at it for 11 years. (3rd shift at an answering service) I do have to contend with mean nasty people a lot (on the phone). But where we used to get raises every year. Due to the economy (or so they say) we have not gotten one in 2 years. It is a little disheartening. I understand where you are coming from. But just be careful if you switch that it is going to be better and permanent. You might get a horrible job that pays well but you can't stand it so much you have to quit. Then you're stuck... My roommate has been unemployed for 6 months.. there is just nothing around. Good luck.

That is true. I mean, something is better than nothing for now. And as for budget cuts, my mom used to get a payout this time of year every year for 24 hours of personal time, they would give her the option of getting a check for not taking the time. well, she never took that time off, and they are refusing her check. She cannot see why. They say it is the economy, but she is saying it was her time to begin with and they would HAVE to put it on her paycheck if she took that time off anyway [she is salaried] so what does it matter? Its crazy out there.

When I used to jump from job to job, I would look for a better one after my first day of work. My current job is not the best, I've had better. But, it has grown comfortable. Like you, the pay is not enough. I understand your dilemma, but ultimately, you've just got to do what's good for you. Although something out ther may not have the security and familiarity of your current job, but if it offers a better pay, and may improve your life, you just have to take it. Like a previous responder here, just keep your eyes open. Goodluck!

Thanks for the encouraging words. It is always nice to see someone understands my situation [even though I would not wish it on anyone] I am the type of person who does not like change and tries to keep everything as familiar as possible. I am a list-person and a planner and keep things a certain way. I guess that is why I am scared to venture to the unknown, but it looks like I will have to if I ever want to get onto my feet...

On my side, the pay is great but I have a hard time gaining time for myself, friends and family. That is the opposite of your dilemma but still a dilemma LOL :D

I can only tell you what my Granddaughters are going through. All three of these girls have had to take jobs outside the box, meaning they had not previous experience doing what they do now. Three are working for min. wage but all have health coverage. One girl, with two college degrees just went to work for Starbucks she gets tips and they give her full benefits. She is looking to return for a master degree, but still needs to support herself and Starbucks will let her work part time and still get benefits which is unusual. Keep your eyes open. Good Luck.

Thanks savypat. I will surely keep my eyes open. I do not WANT to leave my job as I have gotten very comfortable there, but I just might HAVE to really soon. It saddens me, but I guess that's life. Thanks for sharing your story with me :)

Fast food workers unite!! I'm a manager at a fast food joint(like taco's?). I don't think anyone thinks they make enough money where they are. I've been with this company almost 19 years. There are other jobs I could go to but I truly love my crew that O work with everyday. We can all get "snippy" from time to time. There is so much more involved that managers have to work at. It's not only the serving of the food but watching labor hours, making sure employees get their breaks, ordering supplies, taking care of irate customers. You don't know how many times I wish I were still just a crew member. You said you are still in training so this must be a pretty new job for you. Understand that going into management means that you have to know everything involved in running the store. This takes time. Don't get discourged if you want to start in management I'm sure you will reach that goal when you are ready for it. Before you start jumping from job to job also understand that employers will take this into account before hiring you. It's one of the first things I look at on an application. I'm not going to waste my time, my crews time nor the companies time training someone who may or may not stay around. Just think about it before you make your decision. Good luck and remember to keep those customers happy!!!!

I have given my opinion about you and your job(your dilemma as you put it) but I did not respond about my job. I love my job. In fact I have never done anything that I hated. Perhaps I am blessed and I think I am,so to God be the glory. I am multi-tasked. I have been an educator(now retired) for 33 years and I love it. I have taught all grades to university level and each phase was great. During this period I have been one of the newspaper's correspondent for about four years , recently I was laid off due to recession. Here again I met a different set of people with new interest and I enjoyed myself. There are other things that I have done but to come to the point I am currently a financial advisor with a largest insurance company in the country. I love this job despite its many challenges. I am a people but people can be great but they can be your worst enemies. Last month for example I did not get any pay because people lapsed their policies and my production was low anyway this month I hope I am ' out of the woods' and will be rewarded. What I love about this job is that there is always an element of suprise and you can work hard to reward yourself because you are paid on acommission basis. I also love that I can give advise that can influence people to plan for the wellbeing of their family . I have seen when there is a lack of planning how poverty persist and family suffers. By the way What talent do you have? Perhaps this caqn be used to change the course of your action.

Chelgrrl, you have alot going for you. You may ask how, so let me state. (1) You have a job (2) You love the job (3) You have agreat relationship going with your coworkers (4)Your clientle/ customers like you of course some are bad eggs but you can live with them Let me point out to you that when you are in a job you can easliy get another. It makes no sense you leave to sit at home. I heard of a true story and I think this should inspire you. A young lady was working in a resturant and she did her task very well. It so happened that a customer asked reapedly for her service and she served well. One day the man asked her why she is doing this kind of job and what was her aim in life. She told him that she wanted to be a doctor or lawyer (I do not remember which) and she is saving to go back to college; he asked her the cost and said nothing to her. The other day he came in and gave her a tip as usual and when he left she looked at it. She was amazed!! She got a cheque that paid the total tution for her years of study. She immediately left the resturant and registered and started a new journey to reach her goal. She graduated and on her graduation day she gave this unknown person thanks for her accomplishment. (she was not given his name) Life sometimes unfolds in unsual manner. You too can be a beneficiary of someone's gift so do not give up. I would suggest that you make some plans for your future endevours so that if you are approach you can have an answer. Another thing is that if you get depressed about the pay your service will be adversely affected.Lastly, I would suggest that you do some serious work here and on other sites that I can tell you of in a different forum. God bless you and pray for help- God through Jesus Christ answers prayers.

I've actually never had a job that I loved. I've worked basically in three places during my life. I worked for the local minor league baseball team and that was probably my favorite job because I really liked the atmosphere there. The problem that I had with that job was that I worked there for three seasons and never got a raise. Then I worked for a yearbook company and that job was pretty decent as well, but it was another case of a job where you never get a raise. Finally, I worked for a local hospital. That job did give raises, but I was promised to get moved from 3rd shift to 1st shift as soon as a position on 1st shift opened up and remained on 3rd shift for 18 months, despite the fact that there were several new people hired.

Hiya chel, Have had jobs like that too where we all got on great but the pay was terrible and I already had one small Child then to keep so we had to move on and find something better. Conditions in other jobs were terrible as well but we have worked in some great places but again very poor money indeed. Hang around for as long as you can till you find another Job with better pay is the obvious advice as no one can live like that forever even though you like the People you will want to progress in your Jobs at some time or another. I also took on peopleĀ“s duties that were not my own and still got paid the same money too so I know how that feel well we all do most of us I guess as well.xxx

Not very good, it seems the pay is not very bad, but i do not like the position. It is a pity for me that have little chance to use my greatest strength. I want to find a new work after this year. Now, it seems i am a do-all and i have to work for all people, all kinds of things. Somethings are very bored and make me unhappy. And i wish i can get some professional certificate in my greatest strength.

Hi chelsgrrl, nice to meet u. Well, I'm a programer in a India company named Infosys, what i do everyday is sitting to a computer then type, type and type.... it is so boring, but I still love it. I think that it is a promised job. The city I'm working in is not where I live, so I'm not a local resident. It was little after I paid for rentting and some daily use, including food. But I still hang on. I think u should see further. All I do now is getting experience and experience makes ability. Moreover, ability decides salary. Sum up, I suggest that don't consider your min wage, it can't be long, of course salary is important, that's why we work. But you should always consider your next move. :) Cheer up!

i did not like my prvious jobs so i have changed a lot. those supervisors i ever meet were very nosey and abnormal and they do not like the hard workers but prefer those workers who have a sweet mouth and flatter them .the relationship is very hard and important to every work.

The state that I am in is what I called a trap because I am working in a family corporation with a below minimum wage & practically speaking I am not happy because it is not enough to provide for the needs of my family. Presently, I am scouting for a good paying job once I can find one I will really leave my current job. For what makes me happy is having a well paying job with my family security.
