Typewriters --- have you discarded them or do you still use them nowadays?

With the advent of computers and with the ease in their use, I wonder if there are people who still find the need to use typewriters. Have you discarded your typewriters and render them "inutile"? Or, do you still keep them and make use of them? Thanks.

Hi, MsFrancisco. Really? I used to operate on an electric typewriter in the bank where I last worked (it was 15 years ago that I last used it, lol). I think it is still functional there. When we got the electric typewriters at that time, we auctioned the old, slow, antiquated typewriters (the Underwood and Olympia models) to the staff. I won two of the typewriters at P100.00 per unit! lol.
In the government office where I work now, we still have one manual typewriter (with the long carriage). It is used by our Cashier to type checks. Just the other day, I heard them canvassing a new typewriter to replace it due to broken carriage. As the price to repair is high, they opted to buy a new typewriter. I suggested that they buy instead a checkwriter because the typewriter is now mostly used to type checks. They are considering on my suggestion.
Thanks for sharing. God bless you!

same here friend. our office is also using it for checks. i was able to use it twice for a document ut i could not anymore recall why it was so--why i did not use the computer to do it, instead i use the typewriter--funny but i missed using it.
it's a stress management for me...i deload by pressing the keys so hard.

No not at all , i have not discarded them no matter printers are here to make our work more easy and computers are also here but typewriters have their own place in our life , even today important documents are typed by type writers not by computer print out , the reason for this is that government is on saving environment and this is a positive step as in India all government documents are typed by typewriters and i think this is really good , though some complications are there while using typewriters but still they are the best.

Hi, bhav. Oh, yes, we have not also discarded our typewriter at home. We just keep them in one of our rooms and if the need comes, we can readily use it. It is still functional. Forms and other documents are best filled up with typewriters and not with the computer printer. It is easy to type in entries in the blanks with the use of typewriters. Most government offices are keeping their typewriters still for a lot of purposes.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice day!

I discarded my typewriter after I got the first printer for my computer. I have since wished that I had been able to keep it, though. It would have been useful to fill out forms, but I simply had no room for it.

Hi, bellis. It would come useful in time. But as space is the problem and you cannot keep it, it was as well good to part away with it. We still have our old typewriter with us, sitting in one corner of the house. It is handy in filling out forms, better than our handwriting, at times, lol (our typewriter is one with the longhand letters). It is still very functional.

My mom had one and got rid of it ages ago.My daughter and her cousin used to like to play on it and write stories on it.My daughter liked the font of it and liked that she could erase and actually watch the letters disappear. Not like when you and I hit backspace, but watch it disappear off the page.I don't need one anymore, nor does my mother, I think it is a good question, though. I bet there are people out there who use typewriters for the nostalgia of it all or use it as a house decoration(I know it sounds funny but some people like that stuff).

Hi, jahernandezrivas. Yes, it was also something that interested my children when they were kids. They used to play with it too and they were amazed to see how the letters were written by the strike of the keys. We still have one portable typewriter with us now. It is kept somewhere and it is not being used. We might find future use of it, who knows. Its keys are in longhand. It is not the usual type of "font" that other typewriters have. My daughter used it when she was in high school (she is now a nurse) in her school projects.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice day!

Hi, letran. With the advent of computers, the typewriters became obsolete to some businesses. But some still retain them for specific purposes. They are good in filling out forms and writing checks. Most of the government offices still use typewriters. They still consider typewriters as their old but reliable tool in their offices.

Even typewriter are facing for junk, it really help and contribute to us way back before, I didn't place any history here but that machine can be use as substitute in the absence of electricity, actually, many of us are still using typewriter for some instances, specially here in the Philippines that most of the government offices utilized that machine, for me, we cant disregard the essence of typewriter because it is part of our history.

Hi, shellback. We still find the need for typewriters nowadays. They are still existing in old business establishments. Even with the computers easily taking their place, there are times that they are preferred than the computers. They are mostly used in filling out forms. Old workers or old writers who have refused to learn how to use computers still depend on typewriters.
