Can a cow REALLY jump 50 feet?

Well, that was my immediate thought when I read the MSN headline "Cow jumps onto roof of Somerset House." For those who don't know, Somerset House is a large 18th century London mansion house where births, marriages and deaths used to be registered. It is VERY tall. And to my knowledge, there's no cows there. Maybe once, but not any more. I was puzzled ... The "Somerset House" in question was, of course, a much smaller dwelling - a house in the county of Somerset, in the West Country. The cow jumped about 6 feet to reach the roof of a small extension. Still impressive - but not quite the mind boggling feat I'd envisaged. The reason my mind went to London was cos I'd been writing about outdoor icerinks the day before - and there's one outside Somerset House. What about you. What funny tricks has your mind played on you?!

Hiya jazzsue58, Cows can jump at least the ones here in Spain do but not the height of Somerset House of course but they are quite an unruly lot and will jump over anything they can when you least expect it. In the Fiestas they usually loose the female Cows the Heifers into the Village Streets and they can be something to be reckoned with I have seen them time and time again. These female cows can also kill although they look really harmless but they are not they will have a go at anyone anytime. Can think of one or two times when I thought something was different like you say my mind playing tricks on me.

I'm glad I got a reply to this! I actually posted it in the wrong section - I meant it to go under animals. Thanks for the reply. I know in Greece it wasn't uncommon to see goats eating people's roofs, which were quite high - and I've seen a frightened cow jump the front of an arctic. It was just I had this stupid thought, not "How can a cow jump 50 feet" but "What was a cow doing in the middle of London?!" For some reason, I completely forgot that Somerset is a county, not just a building! Townie or what?!

Hiya jazzsue, Don´t tell Pam Ayres you forgot about Somerset lol. Yes I´ve heard about Bulls and Cows do things that you just would´nt believe but they do even the Dairy Cows in England can get aggro if you push them enough. My youngest got into the Field next to our Caravan and he was teasing them and they all started to run after him. I told him and warned him but being only three years old of course in one ear and out of the other. However they meant no harm as they were trying to shove him away. There was a Goat that someone used to use as a Guarddog where I used to go past in a Morning on my way to work and it looked a really tough one to handle that. Goats will have a go at everything that moves he should have put up a sign saying beware of the goat don´t let it get your goat. Fierce looking thing too.

This is the funniest thing I ever heard! LOL For that cow to jump even the six feet you spoke of is funny. I can't recall any tricks my mind has done to me recently. But, wow, a cow jumping six feet should be a jeopardy question. Sincerely in Christ, Leesa C. Eph.2:8,9

The odd thing was, it was the only black cow in the field. Actually, it looked like a bullock. I guess the Sun newspaper couldn't make a joke out of "bullock jumped over the moon." (which was the nursery rhyme I thought of as well, at the time) Glad no one derided me for posting this in the wrong section!
