Do You Get Sick Of Reality TV Shows?

I do! I didn't see much of that X Factor (thank God) but what I did see made me cringe. It doesn't seem to be about the singing talents anymore but how one looks. Pathetic if you ask me. The way they go on about Susan Boyle makes me puke as well. Why shouldn't she be able to sing (Britain's Got Talent winner)? Why should it matter what she looks like? Simon Cowell has even had botox and his teeth whitened. What's wrong with that man? I know he's rich but I wouldn't sleep with him for all the tea in China lol. I don't like shows with "celebrities" in that I have never heard of either. Grrr! If that leprechaun (not Irish but small) geezer wins Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday I will never, ever watch it again! The bloke can't dance!

I like certain ones, but too many of them are really stupid. My family really got into one last summer "Japanese Reality Show" where the people had to do some really humiliating things, and I just couldn't see the point. I really, really like Amazing race. That's the sort of thing I would have loved to do myself.

I don't know what people get from seeing people fall flat on their faces like that... The music industry is harsh. Some of those shows give chances to people who wouldn't get them otherwise. And some bands don't get the credit they deserve. Things I think are really good, often don't sell. But then I"m not exactly mainstream.

I did read ages ago that there are only a certain number of melodies, then it starts becoming repetitive, which may be the reason why there are so many cover versions around now.

Hello Janey. I avoid them like the plague, with the exception of 'Dancing on Ice.' At least on that, you can see people learning new skills and improving week on week. I like ballroom dancing as well, so I do catch 'Strictly' now and again, but I think they suffer from the 'John Sargeant Factor,' where everyone votes for the underdog. It happens to an extent on 'Dancing on Ice' - Colleen Nolan was voted through every week, although she couldn't skate if her life depended on it - but in each series so far, the best skater won. And Torvil and Dean are still magical to watch.

Yes, I'd like to see him win as well. Apart from the fact that he's the best dancer, he's rather fanciable as well. He could make this old lady very happy if he tried!

Hiya Sandra. I have never watched 'Dancing on Ice' but I do confess to having watched Todd Carty slide off the rink in one of his routines on YouTube! Yes, I think the 'John Sargeant Factor' is definitely still evident in this series of 'Strictly Come Dancing.' That's how Chris Hollins has got to the final, I'm sure of it. The cheeky-chappy grin and lack of talent has won through but I'm keeping EVERYTHING crossed for the rather wonderful Ricky Whittle to win tomorrow night. :-)

Yes, I agree with you. There doesn't seem to be a "natural looking beauty" on telly anymore...and I'm including the men too!

I have to admit, I am tired of all the reality television shows. It is as if the creators haven't been able to come up with something original. There have been some great television shows on over the years that could be built off of. I am really surprised that in some cases the creators didn't develop spin offs that could be just as good as the originals. Guess I'll go back to grabbing a good book off the library shelves.

Yes, I suppose it's the "easy" option and channels like ITV1 make a whole wad of cash from those poor souls ringing the premium phonelines every week. I can't remember the last time I saw a film on television...the best ones seem to be on during the day!

I was sick of it. Now I am cured though. My prescription is for four times a day. Morning, noon, evening and night. And the remedy is to not watch reality shows during any of these times. Try it and you will also be cured.

Some people keep watching a show even after its become boring. Yes, there is a test match going on between England and South Africa. Its a test match so it can be viewed all day long.

I don't have telly on at all during the day when hubby is at work, although I did have the cricket on for a bit. Sport is far more real than people wanting to be..er wannabes lol. Some of our female friends didn't come out on Saturday due to the X-Factor final being on TV. Now, that IS sad!

I am a reality T.V. junkie!! It's bad, I used to drive my boyfriend nuts with the amount of reality T.V. I watched. I do however get sick of some it, especially the shows you can tell are scripted and not that real at all. It's kind of hard to believe certain situations on the shows just happen, they kind of seem set up a lot. They can also get very repetitive, I am so sick of hearing about the millionth season of Survivor. Once a show has had too many seasons, it just gets old. I will never get sick of The Real World however, it is always filled with new people, new places, new situations, and new drama!!

I know what you mean about there being too many series of some of the reality TV shows. "Big Brother" has been a victim of its own success and everyone who's on it nowadays has their own agenda. Trouble is, Channel 4 will have to replace it with something else after next year, otherwise they'll be skint! You are quite right about The Real World as you put it, nothing matches it on telly.

When you think about it, how much of it is real life and how much is made up? Some people who have been on reality shows have spilled the beans and said how the director wanted to create certain situations so that it would be good for the ratings. Besides, what we watch is all edited in such a way as to illicit a certain response. I've watch Super Nanny and cannot believe that some of those children actually act that bad all the time and if they did shouldn't the parents have taken the kid to see a psychiatrist a long time ago instead of waiting for Jo to come knocking on the door to save the day? Oh, please! I also watched The Biggest Loser the first, third and most of the other seasons. I didn't watch the second season. I don't remember why. I enjoy watching the contestants meet their weight goals and the background stories but I don't like the elimination rounds. I know it's a game and all but I don't like it when someone has to go home. The other reality show I watch is American Idol. I usually like watching the audition rounds and maybe the Hollywood rounds but when it gets to the final 24, 12, etc. I tune it out. I especially don't like that they changed the rules sometime ago. Now instead of picking 24 good singers, it now has to be 12 guys and 12 girls. That's not real to me. They also seem to pick those that will make the most 'drama' like: the diva or the effeminate guy. I've become sick of it and will probably not watch at all. The shows you speak of like the X-Factor, Britain's Got Talent and Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday are not in the States so I can't comment on them. Sincerely in Christ, Leesa C. Eph.2:8,9

Thank you for enlightening me on Reality Shows in the US. I know a lot more about them now. I agree with you that it doesn't seem right that there are 12 guys and 12 girls at the end of American Idol, like you say, it should be done purely on vocal ability, and if there's 24 guys or 24 girls, so be it! :-)

I don't watch any reality shows. I watched the first few Big Brother, and that put me off for life. They are so contrived and carefully managed to maximise entertainment value that they are not in fact 'reality' at all! The downside is that I have no idea who everybody is talking about on TV any more, so many people seem to be obsessed with the new short-lived 'celebrities'.

Couldn't agree with you more. I, too, watched the very first Big Brother, which was ace. I still remember the winner Craig to this day. I am soo glad it's the last one next year. I didn't even watch it during 2009 and I'm chuffed my willpower made me stay away.

We have a series over here called "The Secret Millionaire" whereby a homegrown rich person "does good" elsewhere by posing as a volunteer (filmed all the time) and drops in on Care Homes and the like. They make the excuse that they're doing some research on behalf of Channel 4 lol. Then, right at the end of the show he or she decides who they are going to give a lot of money to...then confesses to their grateful recipients that they're actually a millionaire. Pllleeeeeaaaaasssseee! Someone turning up out of the blue with cameras...they're not going to do that unless they are planning something. It's so stage-managed!

Yes, I do! In my country there are many reality shows nowadays and I am so happy that I have no TV, because all they broadcast is so commercial, that I get realy sick of it. All the reality shows are "so reality" that I can even guess who will be the winner of the show, or what will happen in this episode. So reality shows are "reality"!

Not really but yeah i bit , i got sick of same reality shows actually , here in my country if one channel has started a show related to a new concept then other channel will do the same and everyone will then start copying it and it is not really good , one should not copy anything from any other channel , i feel sick about this , as no new material and ultimately the reputation of that channel moves down in my eyes and i stop watching that channel who copies things from other channel.

I unfortunately am addicted to The Real World, and The Hills, and a couple others I watch. But I hate The Real Housewives of NYC and a bunch of others are SO ANNOYING.
